IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog powers intelligence, the self-service discovery of data, models, and more. An enterprise metadata repository activates information for artificial intelligence, machine learning, and many other use cases.

IBM Financial Services Workbench helps banks to capitalize on digital business opportunities by creating cloud-native solutions infused with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, with a strong emphasis on enabling people in their different roles to collaboratively design, implement, and test solutions.

With the release of IBM Cloud Pak for Data V3.5, both services interact to create additional value for its users.

When starting a core-to-cloud transformation and rebuilding legacy systems to shift from a monolithic to a service-orientated architecture, business architects and developers must do a lot of manual research. For example, they need to retrieve existing structures within legacy systems and re-model them manually in FSW following the Domain-driven Design approach.

IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog already has a lot of those data structures available in so-called data assets. By combining both services, the information of already profiled data assets can now be used to automatically generate entities in Financial Services Workbench in case of

  • integration of legacy systems to reuse existing data
  • rebuild of existing core structures to break up monolithic silos

This is a huge benefit as it drastically reduces manual research and modeling effort. The integration between IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog and Financial Services Workbench fully respects the access control of the catalogs and data assets. To make life easier, Financial Services Workbench shows useful information (e.g. reviews and tags) to the business users and allows mapping this information to existing properties to avoid a violation of the ubiquitous language in the domain model.
