Inspiring 250K technology practitioners to support non-profits

IBM Community Festival attendees take a “Goodfie” to close out their volunteer activity on Day 1.

A community is a place meant to foster relationship-building, support, sharing, learning and exchange of information. The Community team at IBM believes that our platform and membership of 250,000 users offers a great opportunity to build awareness around social good, coming together to help those not only in the technology space but non-profit organizations around the world.

In this season of giving, and for the first time, we’ve come up with some ways for our IBM Community members to get involved in volunteerism to support children and underrepresented groups globally. As part of our first-ever IBM Community Festival, we’ve partnered with Goodera to create five professionally facilitated group volunteer activities that you can participate in live — virtually ! — during the Festival and for two weeks following.

In each of the one hour sessions, a Goodera Ambassador warmly welcomes volunteers with an introduction, ice breaker (Guess the Voice is a fun one), background on the non-profit organization (always inspiring and sure to tug heart strings), instructions on how to participate from the comfort of your home with no preparation required, and a simple volunteer guide with a manual, downloadable templates, clear instructions, ideas, and a place to submit your deliverable (audiobook recording, e-flashcards, letters, etc.). Here’s a quick recap of our Day 1 event: Creating e-flashcards for girls in STEM for Los Angeles-based non-profit Boundless Brilliance.

While doing good, you have the chance to interact with festival members, meet colleagues from around the world, and take a break from your day job to spend sixty minutes doing heartfelt work to support various groups like the trans-community, refugees, hospitalized children, the black community, girls in STEM, and much more.

Join us for our final two events, Create cards/letters to show support for the trans-community, taking place on Tuesday, November 16 and another chance to create flashcards to inspire future STEM leaders on Wednesday, November 17.

As a reminder, you can still participate in our past events (listed below) for the next two weeks. A community leader will be happy to take you through the activity and ensure your contribution gets delivered. Reach out to us in the comments or in our discussion forum to connect with one of us and join the fun!

Create Flashcards on Monumental Events of Black History — November 10th
In this session, we will create flashcards on monumental events of Black History for Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida.

We look forward to seeing you at the Festival, in the Community, and at our volunteering events. Happy Giving!
