Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) — these are the crucial elements to a modern digital platform. They harness the power of Big Data and the Cloud to generate new insights from an increasing surplus of data gathered at various layers of infrastructure and software. As a result, the technologies have become increasingly popular and important to the enterprise.

The data speak volumes:

Google search visualization of the term ‘data science,’ has had an explosion of popularity over the past few years.
In parallel with data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence has had a recent boon in popularity.

While Data Science and AI (DSAI) are attractive means to produce new meaning from uncertainty, a lot of companies need guidance to learn scalable best practices to guide their development teams and cultivate their data for a digital workplace. Consulting and implementations services are crucial to help companies learn, build, and scale DSAI applications. IBM has a strong reputation for providing fantastic services, with a refined focus on hybrid and multi-cloud implementations, there are specialized SMEs aligned specifically to infusing DSAI everywhere.

The Watson Expert Services provide the best-in-class SME on the ground with your clients to help guide them through our products. These modules and packages are engagement models that are designed to support our clients from design through deployment; Watson Expert Services are created to allow clients to do more with best in class Watson DSAI offerings.

The Watson Expert Services (WES) have demonstrable effects on time to production, key skill area refinement, and compliment intuitive Watson products with agile enablement. WES allow client teams to build deep Watson cognitive solution skills and experience to scale across their organizations.

More and more clients are starting to discuss their success stories with the Watson Expert Services:

  • As the fifth generation of mobile networks begin to emerge, telecommunications companies need a way to make sure 5G is reliable and are meeting customer needs. By working with IBM services, Sprint was able to implement a solution that resided behind their own firewall and ingested multitudes of alarms, support tickets, and dispatch data to train machine learning models for better prediction of dispatch of technicians and/or parts to resolve network issues.

  • A major US insurance company needed a way to rapidly advance its analytics platform to generate new insights on patient data and have an easy way for employees to gather important information. In order to maintain a tight control over operations for pertinent data, this insurance company worked with IBM to configure and implement IBM Cognos Analytics into its existing platform. IBM ran workshops and training sessions to showcase new functionality and get a core group of users up to speed with the latest solution. As a result, a spokesperson from the company said, “Making the move to Cognos Analytics could be a game-changer for us. It gives us the opportunity to empower a whole new set of users to look deeper into their data and solve new kinds of business problems — capabilities that will help our organization continue to deliver exceptional service to all our members.”

  • GKN Aerospace needed to ensure that the skills its employees had were matching the growth it was experiencing as a company. GKN Aerospace quickly recognized that across its aerospace centers there were silos of expertise, with certain sites having specialist knowledge with specific materials and practices, but little insight into the resources or capabilities of other centers. GKN leveraged IBM Planning Analytics and IBM services in order to better plan and accommodate its resources. According to Head of Engineering Services Relationships & Strategic Workforce Planning at GKN Aerospace, “we recognized that working with the consultant who had masterminded IBM’s own internal workforce planning project was key — he was involved at both the start and the end of our project, and really helped us get back on track.” Clearly at the core of GKN’s success was the services provided by IBM.

The Watson Expert Services provide much needed skills to lead clients in the right direction for the future of their solutions using our product portfolio. These are available to help with public, private, and hybrid cloud solutions.

Not sure if this is right for you? Consider this: according to recent studies, only 1 in 20 companies have adopted DSAI solutions into their digital platform largely because 80% of the data that would be used for these solutions is inaccessible and 81% of companies don’t yet understand the data required for DSAI. Here are some patterns we’ve recognized in our clients before they engaged with the Watson Expert Services:

  • Not sure where to start — which data, which products, which solution is going to solve the business need?
  • Stuck with the current solution — it’s not scaling well, there are lots of bugs, it’s causing more issues than it’s solving.
  • Adoption, migration, and orchestration— which technologies work best in tandem, how do I incorporate them into my existing workflows?

Ready to make some DSAI applications?? The resources are out there, and ready to get to work for you and your clients.
