ICON Testnet Faucet Developed and Launched by ICONOsphere
- What is Testnet faucet?
Most Blockchains have a testnet network for testing purposes. It is similar to the mainnet. This way, developers can test their dApps before going live on the mainnet (with close to real world scenario without using real crypto currency). In order to test dApps, tokens are needed. This is provided through a testnet faucet. Testnet faucet is a web app that was developed to help developers get tokens on testnet to test their DApps. Testnet tokens are only valid in testnet.
2. How was ICON Testnet Faucet developed?
ICONOsphere has been working with the ICON Foundation since its early days. One involvement was in creating the Testnet Faucet. ICONOsphere wrote the contract to distribute test ICX. Through this app developed by ICONosphere, it has been possible to distribute the test Tokens provided by the ICON team. Users and developers can request upto 20 ICX for every 30 blocks.
3. Who uses Testnet Faucet?
Before deploying any DApps in mainnet developers need to test in the testnet. Developers require testnet ICX to pay for transaction fee in the testnet. This faucet will help developers to get their test ICX.
4. How does it contribute to the ICON ecosystem?
The contribution is basically creating an environment for developers to develop on the ICON Platform easily by helping them test their DApps on testnet with test ICX. Faucet helps in facilitating the users (developers specifically) to work on ICON blockchain and create DApps to interact with them with test ICX, where they could emulate the application in blockchain without making any real transactions.
5. How to use Testnet Faucet?
Step 1: Create a wallet in ICONex and add in chrome as an extension and open/access it.
Step 2: Open the Chrome Developers Tools by pressing F12, then go to the Application tab. In the Storage section, expand Local Storage.
- Add a new key/value pair, isDev/true, by clicking on the empty row at the bottom of the table.
- Reload your wallet, then you will see the menu at the bottom. Click the ICX (SERVER) button to open the dropup list of the available networks and choose the YEOUIDO server.
Step 3: Open Iconosphere’s testnet faucet hosted on the iconosphere.io website and enter your ICONex wallet address and send it. You’ll get a popup message of successfully transferring 20 ICX on your ICONex wallet.
ICONOsphere is looking at the long term vision of the ICON eco-system. The rewards that we are receiving from the the P-rep campaign will be used for eco-system enhancing projects that will make ICON and ICX popular among the developers so that they can create more dApps. Demand generation through this dApps.
The votes that we have received are fairly low in comparison to some of the higher ranking P-reps. But still we are willing to use a major portion of our profits to help the community.
