Summing up the year and what’s installed for 2022

Looking back, the Institute of Blockchain® (IBS) started off in 2018 conducting workshops, short courses and collaborative events.

When we had our first lockdown last year in 2020, people are figuring out what defines Work in these trying times. The period allows the team a time of reflection and adjustments of our plans for the longer term.

In late 2020, the team agreed that IBS should have a focus on creating social impact. We are committed to making our initiatives socially conscious and inclusive, we registered ourselves with raiSE.sg as a social enterprise member and our journey began from here on.

2021 CSR at a local butchery, Zameel Enyyah in collaboration with Max Boimax

Being a fellow small-medium enterprise (SME), there is always the consideration to balance limited resources and growth. The backstory of collaborating with a local influencer, Max Boimax, who has a passion for elevating home-grown businesses, is how we can do more with less.

Together with Max, a $1,000 and some leg work we ventured on 2 CSR initiatives. We supported a local butchery with a small donation and fed our healthcare staff at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) with packed meals from a hawker stall.

Recently, I was invited by our advisor, Ruben Potter, to share IBS experiences and our journey as a social enterprise at an event organized by the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) Venture Builder Programme.

We touched on topics surrounding the startup landscape and its legality. The takeaway was that business owners should understand their legal rights and obligations when starting a company, especially when seeking funding to scale their business. Curious minds were in abundance that day, we have expanded on exchanges towards current and potential challenges of the founders.

Ian Lee awarded Fintech Leader Under 30 by Singapore FinTech Association, 2021

With 2021 coming to a close, it is a time of celebration for Merkle Science and our VP, Ian Lee, who bagged an award at the Singapore Fintech Festival 2021. Ian has supported us since the start of our first management team in areas of education and partnerships. He is part of our training team that delivers our flagship programme, Certified Blockchain Consultant® (CBC).

Topping things off, IBS has been accredited as an organization with The Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF). We are working with IBF to have our programmes accredited in due course.

Coming January 2022, we will kick off the year with our 5th intake of the CBC programme. The curriculum has gone through several fine-tuning in content delivery and assessment methods to be in line with Singapore’s Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) framework. Our programmes are committed to being accessible and affordable for the public, furthering the understanding and best practices in blockchain and decentralized finance (DeFi). Seats are limited for this current intake and sign up, here

Happy holidays and till next year, stay safe!
