Overview

Guide on how we execute a design project, from its start to its conclusion.

Noe Araujo, our Head of Design.

Pre Scoping

  • Assess if the client knows what he/she wants and needs. As well as how it matches with us as a company.
  • How much does the client know about its product?
  • Ask for examples of what they would like.
  • Review their social media profiles, this in order to see how they currently manage, advertise and handle the design. All this to measure how much they would invest on it.
  • Be involved in the price-setting before the sale.

Kick-off Session

Questions to ask:

  1. What’s their visual identity?
If they already have a Branding, if they don’t or not a useful one, try to sell one, designed by us.
  2. If they have ideas on their minds, and if so, ask for examples.
Ideas on how they are picturing the product to look like.
  3. Ask if they know who their biggest competitors are.
If they don’t know, try to help the client find them.
  4. Ask for the product’s target market.
    Or their ideal audience.

What do we need from the Client?

  1. Branding files, logo files, etc.
  2. Site’s copy or text resources)
  3. Social Media profiles
  4. Site’s contact e-mail
  5. Site’s hosting and credentials
  6. Mailchimp Account
  7. Google Analytics Account
  8. E-mail accounts

Set up a communication with the client.

  1. Point out that the first week is for research.
  2. Make it clear we will only be submitting 3 branding proposals, which they may modify.
  3. Updates via Basecamp.
  4. A meeting should be scheduled in order to show journey, branding and screens.
  5. Prototype will be shown via InvisionApp, where they can also make comments and observations.
  6. Reiterate on the importance of quick replies, they should not take longer than 24 hours, meanwhile for established deliverables they will be:
    Branding — 2 days
    Journey — 1 day
    Screens — 2 days

Research week (test)

  • Project scheduling.
  • Create project at InVision.
  • Research or investigate the client’s main competitors.
  • Search for ideas and inspiration to decide the design approach on the project.
  • Create a ‘Board’ at InVision where we can share our findings
  • Start working on the User Journey and screens that will become a part of the app/website.
  • Start to sketch/work on branding ideas, (in case we are doing branding for the project).

Work, work, work.

  • Once the user journey is approved, we can start working on wireframes.
  • At the same time, work on branding (if this is the case).
  • All the proposals and wireframes are uploaded to InVision and shown to the client.
  • Once the wireframes are approved, we start to work on the design, colors, typography, style, etc.
  • These proposals are also uploaded to InVision.
  • Once the final design is approved, if the designers are involved, the front-end coding begins.
