Ever been to Droidcon London? If not, we can assure you it’s worth it.
Droidcon conferences are held all over the world but Droidcon London is by far one of the most important ones. This year was already the 7th edition!

We (the iCapps A-team) decided to travel to London and meetup with some of the most well-known Android developers on this two-day experience.

The conference

Droidcon was held inside the Business Design Centre in London, an impressive hall that is perfect for big events like these.
Upon arrival, we were already treated with goody-bags and some T-shirts (or should we say swag). In the morning, the coffee and orange juice were already flowing freely, perfect for waking up and getting ready for the first session of the day!

After the first few interesting talks we refuelled on lasagne, socialised with other developers and got invited to an afterparty at CodeNode.
During the breaks we were pampered with cookies and goodies given out by the many sponsors.

The talks

We attended talks that were interesting, really interesting, and some were mind-blowing. We listened to relatable stories from other developers, learned how people solved some peculiar issues and got to know some alternatives for commonly used libraries.

The conference had a great line-up of speakers and topics. The most refreshing talk was definitely the closing talk by Chet Haase. It was a humorous break from all the serious talks, and definitely had the audience laughing.

Technology is fun. More technology is funner.

For a more a more in-depth view of the talks you can watch out for the next blogpost!

The afterparty

After the first day of the conference, an afterparty was held at CodeNode. Free pizza, drinks, video games and roaring punk music made for a great night out in London. We made some Brazilian friends and bonded over some good old Mario Kart racing and foosball!

What did we learn?

Overall our trip to London was a great experience. Here are some of our takeaways:

  • English breakfast is amazing!
  • Uber is usually cheaper than riding the tube (and lets you make a fancy entrance to the conference ;) ).
  • Londoners drive like lunatics (or is that because they drive on the wrong side of the road?)
  • Lots and lots about android development
