Spring Rain

A Poem

rainwater dripping heavily from an overhanging cliff

there’s no
holding back
the rain —

let inevitability
fall,
exuberance

flow and flood,
puddles
swell

and fill low places,
fill to overflowing—
reach down

and touch
wet grass
and soaking ground,

and breathe deeply, savor,
savor the earth-sweet scent
surrendered to the heaving wind:

fear not the storm
but relish
its arrival —

there’s no
holding back
the rain,

the spring rain —
let it
come
