Poetry
To Build a Nest
A pianist wishes to bring her music to a nest.
Poetic gusts open the window of a heart
While a pianist uses the silence to speak —
Certain decipherable notes depart
From the nascent soul to the first streak
Of dawn. A voiceless child notices a bird
That flies over the heads of them all.
On freeing its wings, by the third
Shot of wind, the bird drills in the wall
To build a nest in their reminiscences.
Yet the human spirit is not easily pierced —
A claim must be made even with distances.
Fibres bonded to the interiors are arced
And must be remedied. Then how to evoke?
The musician hears the query, thus convoke
A meeting borne of the soul’s carelessness.
Alas, but none comes for prayerlessness;
Someone says to air: ‘There is no need to pray,
All it takes is to chant the poem for the day.’
