With Dashbird’s product, companies can get real-time visibility, failure-detection and alerting and troubleshooting for their serverless framework.

Dashbird, an Estonian startup in the Icebreaker portfolio helping companies instantly detect and fix serverless app problems in cloud environments, has now finalised their $2.1M seed round led by Paladin Capital Group, with participation from Passion Capital, Lemonade Stand, and us at Icebreaker.vc.

Worldwide IT spending is somewhere north of $3.7 trillion annually. While there are many companies that benefit from this spend, this number also represents a burden for many companies’ budgets. For companies that rely heavily on servers, they may be able to experience significant savings by switching to a serverless, or cloud-based, provider such as Amazon Web Services (AWS). Of course, serverless frameworks have their own challenges.

We initially invested in Dashbird in early-2018 because we believed that the team was well versed in serverless technology and was ahead of the curve when it came to being aware of its pain points. At their previous positions of employment, while working with serverless technology, they noticed that current application monitoring solutions are not adequate for the serverless environment. That resulted in the development of Dashbird.

When companies go serverless it becomes increasingly more complicated and more important to monitor, debug and optimize these operations. Dashbird was founded to address these challenges. With Dashbird’s product, companies can get real-time visibility, including an insights engine capable of running complex checks to detect performance, availability, cost and security risks. DevOps teams can stay on top of their applications’ performance and ensure a high-quality experience for the end-user, allowing for quick troubleshooting and resolution of errors.

Dashbird was founded by Taavi Rehemägi, CEO and Co-Founder, and Mikk Kirstein, CTO and Co-Founder. Both have over 10 years’ of experience as developers. Taavi has been an early employee at a number of big-name startups and has led product and developer teams. Mikk worked on self-driving robots at Starship Technologies before joining Dashbird. They have pulled together a team of talented, experienced and passionate developers and startup veterans to assist in pushing Dashbird’s vision forward. Their platform has already been widely adopted in the serverless community, with over 7000 companies relying on it today, including Newstore, Shamrock Trading Corporation, and Meltwater.

“Building serverless applications has huge benefits for businesses when it comes to speed of innovation, cost efficiency, and scalability. However, the distributed nature of serverless makes it difficult for developers to keep on top of. This is where Dashbird comes in.” Says Taavi Rehemägi, Dashbird CEO.

With the newly added funds, Dashbird aims to expand its product offering to cover the majority of managed cloud services and increase the headcount in their growth and product development teams. In addition to their head office in Tallinn, Estonia, the company has recently opened its second office in London, UK and has recruited Paul Garner as their VP of Sales.

Tom Clute, Vice President, Paladin Capital Group, added, “While the business benefits of adopting serverless computing are clear, this fundamental shift has created considerable pain points for developers with traditional application management and security. We’re pleased to be funding innovation in this area by backing Dashbird and our investment will enable the continued growth of the team and product development.” He will be joining Dashbird as a board member.
