UAE Exchange Agrees to Adopt RippleNet, But Not XRP
The UAE Exchange has announced a deal with Ripple in which the exchange will use the Ripple’s network, RippleNet, to settle cross-border payments. According to Business Insider, the exchange will not be using Ripple’s cryptocurrency, XRP — just its underlying technology. As explained by Business Insider, XRP “is used by Ripple for offering liquidity to institutions but not for international transfer.”
Gibraltar Financial Services Commission Drafting ICO-Specific Regulations
According to CoinDesk, the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) announced it is drafting a law that will regulate ICOs in Gibraltar. Lawmakers in the country claim this is the first time that a country will create a new set of laws and regulations created specifically for ICOs, rather than forcing pre-existing securities regulations and other laws onto ICOs. The draft law will aim “to regulate the promotion, sale, and distribution of digital tokens on the territory of Gibraltar.”
Government Websites Injected with Coinhive’s Monero Miner
According to Engadget.com, websites of the U.S. court info system, the U.K.’s National Health Service, Australian legislatures, and other government websites have been injected with Coinhive’s Monero miner. The hackers typically inject the miner by modifying an accessibility plugin for the blind: Texthelp’s Browsealoud. The mining took place for a few hours yesterday before Texthelp disabled the plugin to investigate.
Japanese Authorities Filing Official Warning to Blockchain Laboratory
Japan’s Financial Service Agency (FSA) has announced it is issuing an official warning to an unregistered ICO agency, called Blockchain Laboratory. According to Bitcoin.com, Blockchain Laboratory, a marketing firm based in Macau that focuses on ICO campaigns, has been conducting business in Japan without a license. If the company fails to respond to the warning, the FSA will work with Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency to file criminal charges.
