New Survey Suggests 8 Percent of Americans Own Cryptocurrency
According to a new survey from Finder.com, approximately eight percent of Americans own some form of cryptocurrency. As reported by Bitcoinist, slightly more than 5 percent of Americans own Bitcoin. The results of this survey suggests that cryptocurrency ownership has increased since the Pew Research Center’s study in December 2016, which reported that only one percent of Americans had traded, collected, or used cryptocurrency.
14 Thailand Banks Collaborate to Create Thailand Blockchain Community Initiative
14 Thailand-based banks are creating the Thailand Blockchain Community Initiative on the Linux Foundation’s Hyperledger Fabric network. According to CoinDesk, the initiative will “digitize letters of guarantee on a shared blockchain platform.” Thailand’s largest banks — Bangkok Bank, Krung Thai Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, and Kasikornbank — are all involved in the initiative.
Snapchat Bans ICO-Related Ads
Snap Inc. — the company behind instant messaging app, Snapchat — has announced a ban on ads related to ICOs. According to Cheddar, the ban does not apply to other kinds of cryptocurrency ads — unlike Facebook and Google’s bans. A spokesperson with Snap Inc. declined to comment on whether the company would ban all cryptocurrency-related ads in the future.
German Researchers Discover 3 out of 1,600 Files on Bitcoin’s Blockchain Contain Child Pornography
German researchers have discovered 3 out of 1,600 files contain child pornography currently stored on Bitcoin’s blockchain. According to The Guardian, one of the three files is an image of child abuse. The other two files contain 274 links to child abuse content, 142 of which link to dark web sources. The researchers expressed concern over the possibility of the possession of Bitcoin’s blockchain becoming illegal due to the presence of the child pornography.
