The Joy of NFTs — Afif Kusuma

Picture ten-year-old you. You’re sat on your bedroom carpet sorting your collection of Pokémon cards. You hold up your 1st edition holographic Charizard with pride, not knowing it’d sell for over $220K years later. *Poof!* it disappears. Nintendo discontinued the Pokémon franchise.

Thankfully that’s not possible because the ownership of that card was yours. That…and physics, but you get the point.

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) transform that physical ownership to digital.

Owned!

NFTs exist on a blockchain, enabling them to be used, transferred, traded, bought and sold. It gives owners some real power.

Owning a game’s NFT puts you in a very flex-worthy position. Players can transfer their assets (NFTs) around, sell them through in-game marketplaces, private sales and on exchanges. The game could be sucked into a black hole and you’d still be asset-positive (and scarily close to a black hole).

🎮 Let’s Play!

Invest your time where you invest your money. This ownership adds limitless value to gamers’ lives by incorporating earning into something you already do daily (if you play like we do).

It may be true that the market can flood with mindless *click* and wait games, but sometimes a truly immersive experience pops-up, builds playable strategy into its UX and throws an open marketplace on top of it all. Properly incorporating playable assets adds that saucy, extra layer on top of existing gameplay that we at ICON Forge find…priceless (but you can still make us an offer).

🧩 Quite a Collection.

Imagine if there were only 400 Jade Rabbit scout rifles ever in Destiny’s exotic collection. Instead, 8.8 million players can all have one if obtained. Without scarcity and NFTs, pwning some noobs with a Jade stops at just that (though it is pretty cool).

When Bungie made Destiny 2, your collection (and that OG rifle you dominated so many raids with) was left behind, rendered useless.

Collections mean something to players, they have value, and they should never stop growing. NFTs capitalise on making sure they last — regardless of updates, releases and expansions.

🖖 Your Friends are Online.
