Icon Africa Offline Event August 2020
The icon Africa team continued its effort to foster awareness about the icon project in Africa and actively engage the African community to search out talents that will contribute positively to icon.
we organized and held an offline event on the 24th day of August 2020, the event was held at Foretrust Digital Centre Enugu State Nigeria. the event had mostly cicco students in attendance.
The event had a total of 24 persons in attendance in adherence to health guidelines. the guideline of events followed thus;

This event was largely an interactive and educative session, the leader of the team mr. chidi gave a comprehensive walk through about the icon project from the basics of what icon is trying to achieve , when the project started , the technology and team behind the project, he also discussed about the governance system of the project.
during the interactive session , we briefly looked at the dapps and solutions that can be built using icon, the resource person also pointed the participants to the grant opportunities available through the icon community grants, since the attendants are already familiar with coding and numbers it was natural to see ideas and suggestions of solutions needed in Nigeria that could be built using icon platform, one of such ideas was to build a trustless escrow system that will enables trade from crypto to fiat and vice versa to replace the current manual systems that has led to series of frauds, the resource person mr chidi explained that there is currently no smart contract that can interact and call funds out from a fiat bank account in the country since regulation around cryptocurrency in the continent is still unclear at the moment . some of the participants who are already familiar with the icon project also asked to know the direction of icon regarding DeFi which is the current trend in the crypto space. during the interactive session it was also discussed to visit the ministry of education in Nigeria to proffer solution to the certificate authenticity problem being faced by many institutions , as the icon blockcchain can be used to authenticate real certificates one of the attendants also proposed for a hackathon event strictly for Nigerian developers to see what they can build out.
the event lasted for 4 hours with a call also for more volunteers .the resource person also announced to the community that icon Africa will also be hosting series of meetups in Ghana in the coming weeks to further spread awareness we sincerely appreciate all those who attended .
