Like what browsers did for the internet and Alexa did for AI, the blockchain industry is in need of the quintessential “killer app”: The application or implementation of blockchain that will bring the technology to the public in a simplified but addictive way for users to use without the need to understand the mechanics behind it.
Gamification: An easy transition to blockchain
The ICON DAO team believes the easiest transition will come from the gamification of blockchain. Gamification is the integration of game-like features to non-game platforms. Examples can be easily seen in airline or credit card companies that have been using gamification techniques for years. Your airline company allowing you to rack up redeemable points per flight has motivated you to loyally use their products at length.
Within the blockchain realm, the idea of turning a user’s blockchain experience into something ‘addictive’ to encourage loyalty is an underutilized approach. Which is why gamification is possibly the most promising and yet untapped way to put blockchain into the hands of everyday users.

In an effort to drive mass adoption of the network, ICON DAO is introducing gamification to ICON.
We are developing CryptoBadge, an identification/reputation system that allows users to gamify their life through receiving, or ‘unlocking’, achievement badges that identify their diverse skills, expertise and accomplishments. We believe this app will give ICON the addictive killer app needed to take it to the next level in usage.
CryptoBadge comes with the unique experience of turning life into a game where your accomplishments and achievements can be tokenized and issued to you just as it would in your favorite video game.

From official certificates such as your university degree, to personal accomplishments such as your fanclub membership, CryptoBadge allows you the opportunity to store the identity that you want recognized and promoted on various platforms.
CryptoBadge has the potential to be a great addition to ICON and it’s journey towards mass adoption. In our running prototype we have already issued thousands of badges and the concept of ‘catching them all’(like Pokemon) is well-received on our social media app of 5million users, Vingle. In the future we hope even more platforms will utilize CryptoBadge. This will prompt an increase in users and transactions for ICON.
