Meet ICON’s New P-Rep Candidate - ICON DAO
Our Background
CAN Foundation is a group of developers who are leading a new blockchain initiative, CAN(Community Alliance Network).
CAN’s mission is to enable mass collaborations by autonomous communities. We believe in the power of autonomous community and decentralized collaboration. We’re witnessing more and more passionate communities pursuing their missions without central governing bodies. The rise of autonomous community is a global big wave. The advent of this new era generates needs for new tools for mass collaboration.
CAN equips communities with reputation system, collective decision making and governance system, and community bank and tokens, all powered by blockchain. We aim to let communities create and run “user-generated institutions” and take over roles held by many traditional organizations.
ICON DAO is our dedication and effort to let ICONists self-organize and proactively run the community as a true DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization).
An Introduction to ICON DAO
The ICON DAO P-Rep team was born out of CAN Foundation’s belief in and commitment to ICON’s goal of network interoperability. It is a decentralized organization comprised of over 25 engineers and product development experts across the world, bringing a level of expertise, experience and passion for the ICON project not seen in most candidates.
Our team has a lot of ideas about the future of ICON and we are seeking to become a Main P-Rep so that we will be in a better position to put those ideas into action.
ICON DAO as ICON P-Reps
Our P-Rep proposal outlines our plans for ICON that focus on growing, supporting and expanding the ICON Network, as well providing ICONists with the technology to govern the ICON community as a well-organized DAO.
Growing the ICON Ecosystem
We plan to contribute to the community through integrating our existing projects onto ICON as well as developing new projects for the ecosystem.
As one of the early investors in ICON, we saw the value in this project before anyone else and have watched it grow and gain momentum over time. We predict ICON will be a monster in the blockchain industry and have put forward projects that will drive this goal:
- Cryptobadge — CAN’s identification/reputation system that allows users to gamify their life through receiving, or ‘unlocking’, achievement badges that identify their diverse skills, expertise and accomplishments. Check our running prototype on Cryptobadge.app to see it in action.
- Code in Force — A governance design tool for users, organizations, or services to facilitate a transparent decision-making process for collaborations. CAN provides Code in Force to allow communities to design their optimal decision making process as well as rules defining member’s rights and privileges. It allows communities to grant different privileges to its members based on the badges issued by community itself or by other external certificate issuers. Communities can also design decision making process based on badges that members hold. CryptoBadge, as proof of member’s expertise and contributions, functions as an underlying infrastructure upon which democratic as well as meritocratic decision processes can be built.
- Token Manager — A token creation and issuing tool for users to develop and manage transactions of their community’s own native token.
- Community Bank — The shared funding pool where DAOs developed on our platform may pool their assets for project funding.
- GROUP — A development stack for individuals or organizations to build functional communities easily and quickly. Tools include communication, content management and forum development, among others.
Supporting the ICON Community
We will offer support to the community through on-chain community activities such as facilitating project collaborations and giving grants to community contributors through our ICON DAO Community Grant.
The ICON DAO Community Grant is our plan to redistribute 10–20% of Representative Rewards back to the ICON community directly by rewarding and financially supporting ICONists — individuals, groups, or organizations — who have been recognized and nominated by the community for their contributions to ICON network growth or awareness.
Community members can be nominated for their interesting dApp, good proposal idea, ICON content creation or even for holding ICON meetup events. The community members are in complete control over who they choose to nominate and for what reason.
On our future ICON DAO Collaboration Forum, users may create nomination threads outlining their nominee and the dApp, tool, proposal or promotion they have contributed to the community for that month. Every month ICON DAO will compile and review the candidates, selecting candidates based upon creativity, innovativeness, potential and community support.
Other than our on-chain support, we will support the community off-chain through activities such as hackathons, workshops and meetups.
Expanding the ICON Network
It is our goal to foster expansion of the ecosystem through cross-platform promoting of ICON as well as leveraging our network. Over the years the team behind ICON DAO has amassed strong relationships with numerous blockchain companies around the world through our investments and product development endeavors. Thus, building a uniquely large aggregated network of millions of users that can be leveraged to promote and add value to ICON Network.
ICON DAO Governance Structure
ICON DAO goes above and beyond simply providing transparency in their governance of the network. We will be governing our internal operations completely as a decentralized autonomous organization with the primary function of growing the ICON ecosystem and enhancing the experience of members of the community. We will only push policies that are community-driven and always be in 100% communication with our network to keep everyone educated and informed.

In line with our goal to be community-driven and committed to growing the ICON ecosystem we have developed a budget plan that is 100% centered around ICON growth, support and expansion.
Proving that ICON DAO is a P-Rep for the community and by the community.
ICON DAO x ICON Network: A Strategic Partnership
The team behind ICON DAO has already made a significant investment into ICON and are longtime ICX holders. Furthermore, we have committed to a strategic partnership to develop products to enhance the ICON ecosystem and provide ICONists with the tools to create their own decentralized autonomous communities.
Additionally, we will also provide:
- ICON’s DID protocol development support
- Governance support
- Multi-chain support and technical support for dApp interoperability
- DApp development code templates and modules
And of course,
- Resilient ICON node operation as a P-Rep.
Through collaborating with ICON, we hope to utilize the platform to develop applications and define new use cases that will enhance our community building efforts as well as play our part in driving blockchain mass adoption.
