How grouping your artwork into families can increase their commercial value
In the last 6 months, Iconfinder has expanded from being an icon-only platform to offering icons, illustrations, and 3D graphics alike. From having customer conversations in parallel to these changes, we realised the importance of offering well-organized content.
Customers rarely come to Iconfinder for only one icon. Most commonly, they look for a group of graphics that cover different topics and that fit each other visually. For example, a customer might be looking for icons in solid style on the topics of vacation, business, marketing, and, real estate. Where could they find all these icons?
Families in focus
To help customers find all the matching content, we are moving families to the centre.
A family is a group of packs that match each other visually and that customers can use together to create a consistent design. It is not enough that the icons or illustrations are in the same style — all outline, for example. It is key that they are following the same design rules: same shapes, same colour palette, same line weight etc. It works just like in a real family: everyone is related and looks like one another.
A family should only contain one type of content. This means, icon-only, illustration-only or 3D-only, so no mixed content. Read more about Organizing content.
What customers see
Content that is grouped into families is presented to customers in this way, with families as the centrepiece.
Customers can navigate directly to the family whose style they like and look inside for the graphics that they need.
Searching inside a family
The larger and more comprehensive the family is, the higher the chances for customers to find all what they are looking for.
The new Manage products area
With families becoming so important, we have created new tools for you to organize your shop quickly and easily. We are introducing the new Manage products area 🎉.
Here are the most important actions that are possible with the new tools:
Get an overview of how your content is organized
The menu on the left lists all your families that are not empty. Clicking on them will show you all the packs included in that family.
Quickly move packs
Drag and drop packs in the menu to move them from one family to another. This should make it easy to rearrange packs and make sure the families are consistent.
Notice Solo packs and move them to families
Solo packs are those which are not part of any family yet. You can now find them more easily and add them to families by dragging and dropping or by selecting a family in the pack’s Details tab.
We recommend to have at least 2 packs in a family, as having single-pack families does not make sense. We do not recommend having many solo packs.
Search for packs
Use the search bar to find packs. This will search in both pack names and their tags.
Head over to the Manage products page to try it out. If you find something that can be fixed or improved, please send your feedback to us by using the green chat bubble.
This update will hopefully make it easier for you to manage the products in your shop and follow our recommendation of grouping your packs into families.
