The crypto-economy provides possibilities for great returns, but education can make them even better. Our international Meet the Managers events are intended to help provide that education to the ICONOMI community and supporters.

On March 29, ICONOMI hosted the second event in our Meet the Managers series. This time we were in London, right across from the Westminster Bridge, joined by four speakers: Levi Meade, the head investment analyst at Columbus Capital; Nina Pfifer, co-founder of 51North and our upcoming DAA manager; Igor Erker, the director of Columbus Capital; and Christophe Sailland of Helford Capital Partners. Our speakers were joined by ICONOMI supporters and potential clients for a day of keynote talks and interactive panel discussions focused on blockchain mainstream adoption.

ICONOMI COO Matej Tomazin’s opening speech

The event began with an opening speech by Matej Tomazin, ICONOMI COO, who welcomed the attendees, touched on the direction in which ICONOMI is heading, and commented on recent market dynamics. In the spirit of the Easter holidays, he pointed out that we shouldn’t put all our eggs in one basket.

Levi Meade, Columbus Capital

The first presentation was by Levi Meade of Columbus Capital, who’s presentation was focused on different types of tokens. He talked about incentivizing systems, crypto-economics, and the different types of tokens. He explained the fundamental differences between cryptocurrencies, utility tokens, and security tokens in depth. He also commented on different types of tokens from an investment perspective and explained why the value of some tokens will increase as the usage of their associated applications, networks, or protocols increases, while other tokens won’t increase in value over time in this way.

Nina Pfifer, 51North

Nina Pfifer sharing some insights from the financial world

Nina Pfifer of 51North talked about how blockchain will transform the renewable energy sector and cut out middlemen. She also touched on innovative financing solutions, different types of investors, and energy tokenization. Throughout the presentation, she shared many personal stories from the financial world. Finally, she outlined the opportunities and risks involved in investing in blockchain projects and the crypto-economy.

Igor Erker, Columbus Capital & Christophe Sailland, Helford Capital

Igor Erker of Columbus Capital discussing regulation

The final presentation was given by Igor Erker, joined by Christophe Sailland, who is helping Columbus Capital establish a framework for the first regulated Digital Asset Array on the ICONOMI platform. They touched on the hurdles they encountered when talking to regulators, banks, custodians, and other institutions. They also discussed the ICONOMI platform and its advantages.

Panel Discussion

Achieving blockchain mass adoption: What will it take?

The panel discussion began with a short introduction to mass adoption, in which I pointed out that we can look at this subject from two angles: from an investment perspective, looking at the usage of tokens as a new asset class; and from a technological perspective. I also discussed Loi Luu’s article Blockchain Adoption: How Close Are We Really?, which points out the importance of minimizing the gap between investment and technology.

Followed by a short introduction, each speaker explained his or her views on blockchain adoption. Matej Tomazin commented on the current level of adoption, explained how he sees the situation going forward, and gave an interesting example illustrating how blockchain and tokens may be used in the future. Levi Meade explained tokens and the different ways they will be used in this new, emerging economy, and Nina Pfifer touched on different types of investors. Finally, Igor Erker, together with Christophe Sailland, commented on the regulatory environment and the role regulations will play when it comes to blockchain mass adoption. The audience then had the chance to ask the speakers questions, and the event closed with a reception, during which attendees were able to talk to speakers directly as well as network with other attendees.
