Announcing the ID2020 Annual Summit — Rising to the “Good” ID Challenge

We are excited to announce that the ID2020 Alliance will host its annual Summit entitled Rising to the Good ID Challenge on September 19, 2019 in New York City at Convene. The focus of this year’s Summit will be to encourage collaboration and learning around the required elements to fulfill the Alliance’s principles of “good” digital identity.

The ID2020 Alliance was launched in 2017 to accelerate access to user-centric, privacy-protecting and portable digital ID — and to do so through sustained and transparent public-private partnership. As we approach 2020. the 2019 Summit offers an opportunity to take stock of progress, evaluate our individual and collective roles in advancing good digital ID, and ensure alignment on key priorities.

Stakeholders from across the digital ID ecosystem, including government leaders, technologists, civil society advocates and development organizations, will gather for intimate, candid discussions around digital identity including:

• The importance of upholding the principles of “good” ID and protecting individuals from undue risk, given the heightened urgency to close the ID gap globally
• The impact of the movement towards decentralization in national ID programs
• Roles played by cities in designing, developing and deploying innovative and agile digital ID programs to make cities more inclusive and accessible for underserved populations
• Lessons learnt around user-centric, privacy- protecting and portable digital ID aimed at eliminating silos and duplicity of solutions in the ecosystem?
• Roles played by funders and philanthropists in catalyzing risk capital necessary for the design and piloting of digital ID programs

During the Summit, ID2020 will also announce our first cohort of technology solutions providers that have been certified by the ID2020 Technical Certification Mark. Our technical requirements for the Certification Mark address eight focus areas: applicability, identification and verification, authentication, privacy and control, attestations and trust, interoperability, recovery and redress and openness. Think of these as the base of a “good” digital identity. Our Technical Certification Mark is the first step in a long process towards achieving “good” digital identity for all.

The Summit will reflect upon the journey of ID2020 over the last fours and share the vision for the future. The interactive format of the event will encourage participation by companies, organizations and individuals, accelerating our collective work towards good digital identity.
