Dog Barking at the Moon by Joan Miro
When people think of wanting to escape, there are several reasons of why we humans would want to run away from it all. Whether it is from problems or the everyday mundane existences of life, which is always relatable no matter what. People always have desired freedom from the everyday mundane existences of life. Which is why I think that Joan Miro’s 1926 work Dog Barking at the Moon shows just that idea of the need to escape our reality. Because of its simplicity and the need to escape. I found this painting interesting to me personally, and I could also feel the need for freedom as had Joan Miro had thought of while creating this painting. While I wasn’t exactly sure of what I was looking at first glance of the artwork, I was confused about the meaning behind this painting because of its simplicity.
Looking at the painting a couple more times, it was interesting to me because of its simplicity, the ladder leading to the moon and then the dog on the ground looking for a means to escape. But while freedom was in the dog’s grasp. There is still the ground that is confining the dog to the ground, confining the dog in vain. I think this is a representation of how we yearn for freedom, yet there are prior convictions. This is relatable to me and anyone who have thought about the idea of escaping and running from it all.
