The theater is one of the most important aspects of seeing a movie. As audiences we seldom pay much attention to the design theaters have in our movie going experiences. Having moved to Durango from the city of Denver, Co., I was aware that the theater would be much smaller in size and scope than the high-end theaters in Denver, such as AMC and Regal Cinemas. These two large corporations have added many amenities to change the theater going experience. One of the most striking to me, were the difference in the seating. At larger theater chains, the chairs are large recliners with much more space. At the Gaslight Cinema, the chairs are small with little leg room. The concession options are extremely limited, they have traditional theater chooses, yet I’ve grown accustom to ordering more than popcorn and a drink.

While the Gaslight Twin Cinema is small and cannot offer the same amenities that larger chains can, it does fit in with Durango’s old western history, it provides tourist to Durango an early look at cinema houses. Now if they could just figure out how to block the trains whistle during movie showings.
