If you are indeed looking for a night to take you back to the sticks and not be afraid to show how much cowboy butts drive people nuts wild horse saloon in Durango, Co is a place to be on a Friday night. The country bar does not mean you need skin tight blue jeans and a pair of Ariat or Justin boots but the saloon welcomes everyone. They are an 18 plus bar showing the variety of all ages from 18 to the people in their late 50s and early 60s.

Waiting in line to pay your way in while hearing a cover of Wagon Wheel and you hear boots stomping, see hats, flannel shirts and couples old enough to be your parents having a good time. You see the old rustic look on the walls that have the old barn feel to them on it. The layout of the bar is that the dance floor was larger than the actual bar this was a plus in my books rather than squeezing in just to dance. I went toward the back of the bar thinking this is an actual place. Taking my friends there was a good thing for them to get out of that hip-hop, rap kind of niche.

With the live cover band there it was more fun compared to songs off and Ipod. The band played different covers from old to new country. The dance floor was center of the attention with the bar up on the west side and the back patio to the east was for smokers to enjoy a cigarette between songs. On the north wall there was a little platform with one pool table and with cowboys all over the place.

I start to lean on the bar thinking this is nice let us see more about the band and see what they have to offer and play. The band continued and that is when the fun began. Playing two-stepping music and all you see are boots blue jeans flannel shirts and tank-tops. This took me back to where I grew up and how we would have a blast line dancing away. The nostalgia of actually having a place to return me to childhood mud bogging redneck days.

There were couples swinging each other around and men looking to ask a woman to dance as well as women waiting to be asked. It was a regular heal toe doe si do kind of night. The band could have switched up the style and play something more upbeat but for those who like to really toss a partner around.

The band took a break the dj of the night decided to also play other music. He began to play Usher’s song Yeah along with wobble by V.I.C. this got the crowd to disperse from the dance floor. This bar to me came to be a country hick bar where we could do just that honky tonk kind of stomp. By playing Usher and V.I.C. was not what I thought I would be listening to. The bar could stick to a certain theme and not try to play hip-hop at a country bar where women dust their boots off to get pushed around the dance floor. The only bad thing about the Wild horse saloon would be the music choice toward the end of the night.
