Review of “This Is Us”
As people, our most precious commodity is our time. With so many platforms and forms of entertainment a genuinely good show that can capture our attention is sure to make its way to you. Over winter break all I wanted to do was hide away in my parents basement and immerse myself in the shows that everyone is talking about. I wanted a show that I didn’t feel I was to far behind to start, (Game Of Thrones) but was established enough to where I could stay in my pj’s for a decent amount of the day. After deciphering through what seems to be limitless content I stumbled upon This Is Us.
This Is Us is an American television series that premiered on NBC on September 20, 2016 and is now in its second season. It has received positive reviews since its premiere, receiving multiple nominations at the 74th Golden Globe Awards. This is not a surprise as there are so many aspects about the show that are incredible.
The foundation of the show is set up perfectly in the pilot episode, with story telling from different perspectives. It includes a young couple pregnant with triplets, as well as simultaneously storytelling of the triplets current lives at 37. The unique approach of intertwining time into a cohesive story shows the writers talent, as well as the actors ability to portray it hooks the audience and gets them excited to watch the story unfold.
The fact that the characters stories begin the day they were born makes the audience become very invested in their character growth. This Is Us portrays how the events you have growing up shape your perspective on life and how intricate the events are in the big scheme of things.
This Is Us is a beautifully written story, making the most mundane things about life such as doing laundry the most beautiful event. It is popular because it shines light on the imperfections of life, as well as the vulnerability of a person, allowing the audience to see the characters for who they really and their relate-ability in their good and bad moments.
This show is a roller coaster of emotion as you truly feel what the character is feeling. If you haven't yet, I highly recommend watching This Is Us and being apart of a show that universally unites viewers and allows us to see a piece of ourselves and our own life within it.
