Thai and Stop Me

It’s half-past seven in the evening and the red and blue open sign beckons from the dark. Tucked in the back corner of a plaza and around the corner from a drive-thru atm, Thai Kitchen Cafe holds the secrets of the universe…or at least that’s what one of the cooks told me.

The food is authentic, deliciously so, similar to the childhood dishes recalled by the cook. Served in a modest space decorated with traditional elephant kalaga, Thai Kitchen has a nice, quaint feel with friendly service and complimentary tea.

At the top of the menu is the popular Pad Thai, completed with toothsome rice noodles, your choice of meat, and peanuts that altogether raises the whole well above the sum of its parts.

With limited Thai food places in the small town of Durango, CO, it can be argued that this is the better of the two. A bit off of Main means the place isn’t too busy but the seating is extremely limited (six tables) and most take their orders to go.

If you’re looking for a place with good food at a low price then check out Thai Kitchen. Just a tip, this place is spicier than most so I go with a solid medium here. Even the mild has some kick!
