Persona 1 - Lisa // 34 // Office Worker

Lisa is a 34-year-old lady who is a mom, wife and colleague at the same time, as you can see she is so busy and little time has left for her to enjoy a movie/series, though it was her favorite activity when she was younger either with friends or by hereself.

Frustration

Other than don’t have enough time to watch movies/series, what borders Lisa is she can’t always make wise decisions in choosing things to watch in a limited time, so she often gets bored after watching a while. And as her free time is very fragmentised(10 - 30 minutes between her duties), she can’t really go into the storys and get relaxed.

Motivation

Lisa would like to have a quick way to enjoy the entertainment the movies/series bring her. And she also need help to find out the movies/series she will more possibly like instead of sitting there 20 minutes and find out she don’t enjoy it.

Persona 2 - Alan // 28 // Tour Guide

Alan is a 28-year-old ethusiastic young male working as a tour guide who needs to interact with a lot of people everyday. The initiative he chose this job because he loves to talk to people and hear about interesting experience from others. And he also likes watching movies/series in his free time because the different world movies/series create are appealling to him.

Frustration

Alan want’s to be in trend for movies/series are always a topic to start a conversation, but they are too much to follow as he also loves to social with friends and explore the nature when he is free. And another thing is sometimes he wants to quote a line but cannot remember the exact line because the large quantities of movies/series he has watched often confuse him.

Motivation

Alan would like to have a easy way to follow the trends as well as find out the exact line he is thinking. And let along work and social needs, he personally think it will be fun to talk to the charaters he likes in some way.

“Sounds amazing talking to my TV heros.”

— Alan

Persona 3 - Rachel // 19 // College Student

Rachel is a 19-year0-old college girl just left home and started her own journey. She doesn’t have a lot of life experience as she is so young and she enjoy learning new things and experiences in movies/series. And sometimes she relate herself more to the characters than people in her life.

Frustration

She has a lot of new things come to her that she feel in a panic and don’t know how to deal with, but she feels have no one to ask for advice since most people only think in their shoes and give opinions without trying to understand her.

Motivation

Rachel sometimes imagine what the characters will do in her case so as to make decision in her real life. So she want to have more interactions with those characters to complete her imagination.

Responding Solution - A Group Chat

In response of the user needs addressed before, a “group chat” will be a possible solution I would like to try.

Basically, the group members are the collection of available movies/series. And whatever the user type in, the related conversations will come up from that point and keeep going on until the conversation ends in order to create a “talking” atmosphere. If the user find something appealling to him/her, he/she can either track the certain conversation or view its source movie/series in detail. And when the user just open the “chat” but doesn’t do anything, there will still be random conversations coming up to fullfill the user need of filling the blank. For a better experience, user can customize the group so they can interact with what they like. But there will be problems of nothing coming up according to the users’ input if the group size is small. When that happens, the system can suggest the user to add some movies that include conversations related.

Functional Requirements

Core Reply Mechanism

When the user type anything, the system should reply with:

  1. All the responding lines.
  2. The titles of the movie/series attached to each line.
  3. Profile photo attached to each line.
  4. And the following lines will come up until the conversation end(in the movie/series).

Search strategy:

Not sure yet.

What users can do with the replies:

  1. Like/Dislike. (Not yet for understanding the user preferences, but for the system to prioritise the conversations make more sense to users)
  2. Track certain story.
  3. View details about the movie/series.

Behavior with no input

Some random conversations will come up. (Maybe those with the most likes)

Settings

The user can customize the group. (Create his/her own group chat)

  1. Group Members List.
  2. Create a new group chat: Select members to add/Search by director/title.
  3. Group Instruction.
  4. Fill a feedback questionnaire. (For getting feedbacks for the research)

Usability Requirements

Instructions of how to get better outcome. (Can be as a group rule)

When the customized group doesn’t have result to return, suggest the user to add some movies/series with conversations related. (Can be “… request to join the group. Agree/Refuse”)

If there are more than one conversation in a movie/series going on, they will have different profile photos so as to not confusing the user.

Next Step

  1. Come up with an interface and conduct user tests.
  2. Try something with database so I can have an idea what results I can get.
