Make Space for Rad Women (11/12/17)

Art Without Walls, a partnership between the Hammer Museum and Los Angeles Public Library, encourages families to create art inspired by social justice issues, children’s literature, and Hammer exhibitions. The same program takes place at two sites separated by 10 miles — the Felipe de Neve Branch Library and the Hammer Museum — bearing out the notion that art can transcend barriers of all kinds.

The program at the Felipe de Neve Branch is offered in Spanish and English; at the Hammer Museum, we provide a thematic story time in the galleries, reading titles that have been recommended by the children’s librarian at the Felipe de Neve Branch.

In previous Art Without Walls programs, families have contributed to a collective book of ABCs for young activists, declared how they would defeat racism, built a monument to radical and inspiring women, constructed slippers that were donated to a local organization that serves homeless women, and created soundscapes of a time when they felt free.
