I figured how the evolution of marketing has kept its core!

When I was a little kid I accompanied my old fashioned grandmother to the nearby store!

She used to visit the same store always, and I wondered why not go to the store right beside her usual one. It was surprising to me how she was decided on this one store and never budged.

A few years ahead, when I started reasoning things and was inquisitive about this one lingering question, I asked her why would she only visit this one store. The smart woman that she was, answered my question in a simple statement:

“The shopkeeper is very thoughtful. Don’t you remember so many times has he given you toffees and chocolates for free!” (Point taken Grandma!)

Fast forward 15 years…

A new century, shops are now on the touch of a phone and shopkeepers are some oblivion of a code running behind computers.

Notifications buzzing on my phone:

“Use code 49FOR8 within your city to avail cab rides @49 for 8 km.”

“We have credited your account with Rs. 500 bonus cash! Use our exclusive gift to you before the balance expires!”

“Introducing a brand new Cash Back card, redeem your credit points with our customised Cash Back platinum credit card.”

“Thanks for ordering from our online store. Avail of 30% off on your next purchase. Offer valid till 20 days!”

Need I give more examples??

What is this age-old marketing mantra?

The best customer retention is in excellent service! It is in the best brand recall value!

And what can add value more than a generous giving from the brand to the consumer?

Like some exclusive discounts and multiple other gimmicks to make them spend the money while being loyal to the brand!
