After sharing our progress with the rest of the class last week, we moved on to creating prototypes on Figma individually. I was in charge of revamping the doctors’ pages so I started by exploring all the functions current doctors’ pages have, and redesigned them to make them feel more inclusive, supportive, and welcoming towards transgender patients.

The first page I redesigned was the page that has a gallery of doctors. Here is the list of things I added/modified:

  • “Video Visits Available” tab under the pictures to make it easier to recognize the telehealth option
  • Pronouns next to MD
  • Badges that each doctor earn (i.e. transgender safe-space, LGBTQ+ friendly) so that transgender patients feel more confident in choosing the right doctors for them
  • Phone number and email section
  • Learn more button at the bottom so that users know where to click to see a more detailed profile of the doctor

The second page is the doctor’s profile. Here is the list of things I added/modified:

  • Modified the pixel of the hero section -currently, the doctor’s picture occupies most of the screen when you open it on desktop but there are other information that patients should see when they first open the doctor’s profile
  • Added pronouns next to MD
  • Added a placeholder for the personal video of the doctor
  • Modified the layout and created collapsible tabs so that users can skip sections they are not interested in and find the information they want more easily
  • Added Patients Experiences section which serves as a review section of the doctor’s service so that transgender patients know what to expect

After finishing my part, I shared it with the team, and the team created the rest of the prototype. And we each shared and discussed all the prototypes at Monday’s meeting. We brought some discussion points on our prototypes but it was not possible to decide anything based on our assumption. This lead to discussing the questions we want to ask and things we want to make sure of by interviewing potential users. We are planning to conduct interviews next week based on the mid-fidelity prototypes we made, so we are going to create a detailed interview guide, schedule the interviews, and talk to the potential users. We are hoping that interviewing users would make it easier to come up with personas and detailed user journeys.

Personal Learning Outcome

It was my first time doing a full redesign on Figma but watching tutorials really helped me get used to this tool. I spent hours staring at the chrome console on the current Transgender Health page that NYU Langone Health has, downloaded the typeface, and created a brand guideline so that all the prototypes match the exact pixel, color, and typeface of the current page.
