This week we were still working on research but also started synthesizing findings as well as brainstorming some initial ideas.

At this point we are structuring our research finding, discussing insights, themes and opportunity area, as well as moving to defining the problem and how might we statements. We are half way through the double diamond process.

Over this past week we kept sending out surveys, as well as trying to reach out to healthcare providers. Unfortunately, it has been difficult and we got almost no responses so far, so we decided to also watch some videos with transgender people’s experiences and learn more about what already exists at NYU Langone. Here are some of the videos that we looked at:

We learned more about the problems that transgender people experience during their healthcare visits and what concerns about their health and healthcare providers they have, such as concerns about changing body, finding resources, safety and discrimination.

Also, we took a look at NYU Langone Health’s websites:

This gave us some ideas of how the websites could be improved, maybe should have more media added and also having all the useful resources in one place for the LGBTQ+ users, so that they feel safe and accepted.

Also, one of the ideas we discussed in our meeting was having some stickers in the waiting room showing that NYU Langone supports LGBTQ+ community or even having QR codes where patients would be able to access useful information while waiting on an appointment.

We came up with following how might we statements:

  • How might we mitigate concern on finding resources about healthcare for transgender and non-binary people in order to make them feel more accepted?
  • How might we make information more accessible in order that all age ranges, patients, healthcare providers, people with disabilities could use the services that are being provided?

Here are some ideas for solutions that I mentioned above:

So far, it seems like we on the right track. I wish we could get some responses from communities to make sure we are solving the right problem, that would help us narrow down the scope and define a better solution.
