This week before we started prototyping, my team decided to go over all the feedback and questions we received in our last class.

Here are some of the questions we were asked:

  1. Which group we actually want to focus on? What audience we want to target?
  2. If we want to create a website, which part of the website to improve or a new web?
  3. Touch points: How do people access the resource, which will influence how NYU Langone is promoted?

(ex. advice on low prototype: Flyers that are easily to tear to test where to promote and what to promote)

We had a meeting on Friday to discuss all these questions and while we were brainstorming, we tweaked our idea a little bit.

As for the audience we decided that our primary focus are transgender and non-binary people. However, our secondary audience could be anyone who is a part of LGBTQ+ community, so they could benefit from our design as well.

When we were discussing what part of the website to change, we realized that maybe we shouldn’t create a new one and just help organize the NYU Langone web pages that already exist to make the navigation for users and especially for the audience mentioned above.

That brought us to the new solution: adding a Chatbot. NYU Langone Health website is pretty complex and there is not “Chat” or “Help” window that pop up (unlike almost all the websites that provide services). We though that this solution may help NYU students and especially transgender and non-ninary people find healthcare providers, schedule appointments, ask questions, find useful articles and communities. Since Shaun already had some experience creating a chatbot in the past, we decided to go for it.

We started ideating what questions could be asked and what options would be provided. We decided to each come up with personae and logic map of questions for the following meeting.

Here is a persona I came up with based on the videos of transgender people sharing their experience with healthcare system as well as NYU Langone Health panels
Here are some questions and options for a chatbot I came up with

We shared what we worked on over the weekend and explained our personae as well as questions and starting ideating how the chatbot would look like and realized the need of sketching out some wireframes.

Here are some of my sketches:

We agreed that we will share our sketches with each other to see what the solution would be and also we would like to create an actual chatbot prototype tomorrow after class.

The research is still ongoing, we are still adding to our resources and we even got some responses from NYU LGBTQ communities that they will help us distribute our surveys so we hope to get some answers. This all will help our iteration process for the next week.

In general, I think our team is on track and I am glad we are coming up with useful solutions. Since the NYU Langone website doesn’t have a chatbot and there is a problem with navigation, we hope that with our design, transgender and non-binary people will be able to find a healthcare provider that would be able to help them and also we hope that our solution will reduce stress and anxiety before coming to a healthcare professional and we wish to spread awareness of all the resources that are available.
