Mining nodes — total number of full mining nodes run by individual identities or pool owners who activated online status.

Newcomers — number of addresses that validated for the first time

Success ratio — share of users attended the validation and successfully validated

Active wallets — unique wallets that made transactions during the last epoch

Network stats

Markets

Node type stats for the last validation

Nodes on VPS — users running their nodes on VPS

Built-in nodes — users of the Idena Desktop App with build-in node

Shared nodes (web) — Web App users renting shared nodes via marketplace

N/A — users running outdated versions of nodes (VPS/built-in nodes)

Unknown shared nodes (web ) — Web App users who connect to shared nodes that are not listed in the Idena shared nodes marketplace

The data is given for the latest validation.

To have a smooth and reliable validation ceremony experience, we recommend using VPS or built-in nodes if you have fast Internet connection and good router, or the nodes listed in the node marketplace in the official Idena Web App in other cases.

Quadratic staking progress

Idena Core Team Development

Summary:

  1. IIP-5 hard fork update
  2. Oracle voting changes
  3. Funding Oracle votes with the Community Wallet
  4. More warnings before replenishing stake
  5. Blockchain explorer and website update
  6. Ads on validation

IIP-5 hard fork update

You can find the details about the released hard fork changes here.

With the great support from our community, the IIP-5 hard fork was successfully activated at the block number 4871136. This is a new ideological milestone for Idena. Quadratic staking brings together two polarizing concepts of capitalism and equality to create a more fulfilling and robust structure that allows for more decentralization by increasing incentives for people to participate in the protocol. Read more about Quadratic staking as Idena’s ideological turning point.

Oracle voting changes

To support the hard fork changes we updated both Desktop and Web app.

As you may notice, we have made some changes when creating an Oracle voting. Now there is a new field Owner deposit which is the amount of coins that is required to start the voting. It will be automatically refunded to the owner address when the voting is finished.

Rewards fund is the total fund for Oracle rewards. The rewards are distributed equally across identities who voted (or voted in majority depending on the Oracle settings) and revealed their votes during the counting period.

In the Advanced settings you can specify a custom owner address which can be different from the oracle author’s address. The owner deposit will be sent to this specified address after the voting is finished.

Please notice that Owner fee is now a percentage of the Oracle rewards above the specified Rewards fund that will be sent to the Owner address.

For example, let’s take an Oracle vote with the following parameters:

Owner deposit: 5,000 iDNA

Rewards fund: 100 iDNA

Owner fee: 10%

Someone added 100 iDNA to this voting. The Rewards fund is now 190 iDNA

In this case when the voting is finished the owner deposit address will get back 5,010 iDNA

Funding Oracle votes with the Community Wallet

Now it is possible to fund Oracle votes directly from the Community Wallet. Here is a step-by-step instructions how to do it:

  1. When you create a new Oracle vote, specify the Oracle owner as the Community Wallet multisig address. Publish such a vote without sending any coins to it (Send parameter will be set to 0 automatically).
  2. The new Oracle voting contract will get the Pending status. The voting can not be started until the balance of the contract is replenished. You can try to click the Launch button to see the required Owner deposit (it’s 5000 iDNA if the voting is launched on the whole network).
  3. Send the required amount from the multisig Community Wallet to the Oracle voting address.
  4. Launch the voting using your own address. After voting is finished, the owner deposit will be automatically sent back to the Community Wallet address.

More warnings before replenishing stake

Staking can be risky for newcomers. During the last validation one of the Newbie users lost the stake worth around $17k iDNA. After the incident we have added more warnings besides the red warning banner that was displayed before.

The checkboxes with warning messages are shown depending on an identity’s status.

For example, a Candidate needs to tick 4 checkboxes before replenishing their stake.

Blockchain explorer and website update

The Idena website and blockchain explorer have been updated to bring them in line with the hard fork changes.

The maximum epoch mining rewards are now displayed in the Epoch mining field. These rewards are calculated taking into account the current online miners.

We have also added information about Quadratic staking to the FAQ section of the website. Please refer your invitees to this section to learn more about staking and related risks.

Ads on validation

The link for testing the validation flow with integrated ads was published in the last Chronicles. As there is no negative feedback, we have released this feature. Ads will be shown during the countdown 5 mins before the upcoming validation and after submitting the answers for the long session until the end of the validation ceremony.

Community updates

Edited by Syd

Happy hard fork Idenians! We are happy to start off this community Chronicle after a new milestone was reached by Idena. Indeed we can celebrate another huge achievement and another step towards more decentralization. And what is even more amazing is that how all of this was made possible thanks to real on-chain democratic governance.

The hard fork, a community success

The hard fork success stems from a flawless democratic process which can only be possible on Idena. Indeed at each step, Idena community has been involved. Starting with the community key role around IIP-5 (see previous Chronicles), followed by the Oracle vote, to finally the hard fork activation, the whole process was an amazing illustration of the power of Idena community.

The support of solo-miners was achieved with governance made right, and it’s no surprise that the community celebrated with enthusiasm the hard fork.

Thinking even further, with all the struggle and unfairness issues that every crypto project, which try to deal with governance, encounters, maybe, just maybe… Idena is the perfect blockchain for DAOs?!

Democratic mining, Democratic governance

Governance made right is not just about the process: it’s also about voting power. Proof of Stake concentrates this power in the hands of whales and governance there just doesn’t really feel fair for the involved communities. With Proof of Person, every community member counts. Everyone can be a validator and manage its own node, you don’t even need any expensive hardware. On Idena, you don’t even sacrifice your privacy.

But you know all of this! What is really great to hear though are these shared experiences:

We love such stories so please share your experience as well and tag @IdenaGang on Twitter!

Idena featured in the Citizen Cosmos podcast — a discussion about Idena, proof of person and democracy

Idena was featured in the last Citizen Cosmos podcast and this was a great opportunity to reach a new audience which was thus able to discover and understand the concepts behind Idena. Pretty good timing as this naturally led to a discussion about plutocracy and democracy and how Idena is a practical solution to these challenges!

Huge thanks again to @TravCrypto1 and @WorldIdena (also known as Fireshift/Ltraveler) for presenting and explaining Idena!

Community Wallet and Community Proposals

Address: 0x182d0fDC04859021456c4F8EE5314AcF57E31650 (multi-sig wallet)

Amount: 20 755,114 iDNA

ICYMI, the Community Wallet is now controlled by 5 delegates who execute decisions made on Oracles through multi-sig. For more details, please refer to the Chronicles #89.

During Epoch 89, 90 and 91, and despite some technical hiccups, our 5 community delegates ensured the execution of the oracle vote results. Many thanks to @georgiy, @NPC 69, @zorga , @Fireshift and @Ubiubi2018 for inaugurating the role and pave the road for our community governance!

As stated in Ubiubi2018 governance proposal, the delegates were selected for 3 Epochs. Therefore, 5 new delegates will be selected at the beginning of the Epoch 92. To this end, we will keep the previous list of candidates but we are open to new candidates as well. If you are interested, please head to #community-delegates channel in Discord.

REMINDER regarding Community Proposals:

As the Community is now empowered to build and get funded/rewarded through a democratic governance leveraged by Idena Oracles, it’s again a good moment to remember that everyone can make a funding proposal.

For that purpose, please join the Community Discord https://discord.gg/UrsDEHMs, reach #community-proposals-and-discussion and follow instructions in the pinned message.
