Description:

On May 30, 2020, during the validation session the Idena blockchain experienced a technical issue: About half of the answers to the Short and Long sessions of the validation ceremony were not mined in time.

Impact:

As a result, about half of the participants failed the validation session.

Root cause:

Idena blockchain nodes were not able to distribute full blocks over the network, therefore empty blocks were mined.

Possible solutions:

  • Reducing the block size
  • Increasing the length of the long session (until a certain number of non-empty blocks are mined)
  • Other improvements to be considered

These changes will require a hard fork update. The hard fork will be announced soon.

***

The Idena development team does not see any possibility and does not intend to initiate a hard fork for a rollback of Killed/Suspended identity statuses or for reimbursement of missed rewards.

Idena’s mainnet is still at the experimental stage. Active development is well underway. Running the Idena software is at users’ own risk.
