Objet Particulier is a custom made furnitures and home accessories brand in Gijón — a city in north-western Spain—, of which products are handcrafted with Galuchat or Straw Marquetry.
The identity was designed by an also Gijón (local collaboration!) based studio, atipo.

The Stingray leather is a very special exotic skin due to its hardness and formulation. The skin is composed by an upper layer pearl and it comes from a variety of the stingray specie that lives in Southeast of Asia.

It apparently began to be used in the VIII century, in the Samurai’s sabre grip, or medicine box. It was in the XVIII century when Jean Claude Galuchat a well-known artisan started to produce unique furniture pieces made with this exotic skin. He produced a great variety of stingray leather objects for the king Luis XV and the French aristocracy. Since then, the material bears his name.
Nowadays we can find galuchat pieces in many renowned art museums, such as Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

Logo

Our proposal begins with a distinctive and elegant symbol that synthesizes the silhouette of a ray and in turn evokes the union of the letters “o” and “p”.

Typeface

Cassannet, updated art deco typography and clear french reference, is used in the logo to provide distinction and solidity; in contrast, a handwritten font contributes to the craft character. the typographic palette is completed with inconsolata, a font intended for general texts and that adds a technological point.

Applications

The chromatic range, with a frenchified air, is intense and refined that, together with a careful selection of papers and finishes, complete a speech that speaks of exclusivity, refinement and painstaking manufacture.

Thoughts

The idea — describing a ray with the initials— is easy to come up, you may think, but actually the execution is perfect. Because, if you search “stingray logo” on google you will see, but it could have been a “too aquatic” logo. But this was for a handmade furniture brand, so it needed to be elegant. Subtly shaped stingray has no raw feels, instead, it has a beauty as an “object”.
