Chinese firm ZTE launched Axon M in the US, here are the details

Zhongxing Telecommunication Equipment Corporation or ZTE which is a Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment and systems company has added an interesting phone in its portfolio. The phone, dubbed Axon M, is a foldable device that has two display units cobbled together with a hinge.

Although, it is not the much anticipated bendable display that we are looking forward to in the near future, the design is quite elegant and nifty considering the secondary screen does manage to give it a unique touch. The secondary screen one unfolded expands the total useable area to a 6.75-inch display and since the bezels are minimal, users do get the feeling that they are looking at a singular unit and not two units that are joined together.

Both the units of Axon M feature a HD 1080p resolution and are 5.2 inches individually. They can be configured in four different viewing experiences based on the consumer’s whims. The Dual mode which the phone has gives the device the flexibility to run two different apps on two different screens simultaneously while the Mirror mode would combine both the units, making them act as an individual screen. Finally, there is a “Traditional mode” which gets rid of the extra unit, by turning the display off; therefore, the phone reverts back into a normal smartphone.

Axon M, though an interesting concept, but lags behind in the specification department. It features that Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, which is dated and has 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of onboard storage. There is a singular camera on board. Axon M’s design allows you to interchange the phone’s displays to use this camera as a front or rear camera according to your convenience. The entire shindig is powered by a 3,180 mAh battery, which many would agree would be severely overused considering that two displays would get juiced from it. The phone carries a price tag of $725 in the US and will be sold via AT&T exclusively.
