Jeff Bezos, the father of Amazon, is the new richest person on Earth

The founder and CEO of the e-commerce behemoth Amazon, Jeff Bezos has now toppled the Microsoft founder Bill Gates and become the new richest person in the world, reported Forbes.
Bezos’ coffers have now surpassed a whopping $90 billion after Amazon stock jumped by 1.6% on Thursday morning, adding another $1.4 billion to Bezos’ wealth. He is the seventh person to hold the title of world’s richest person.
Here are some interesting facts about Jeff Bezos, the newly crowned richest person in the world:
Bezos was born on January 12, 1964. He grew up in Albuquerque with his mother, Jacklyn Gise Jorgensen, and stepfather, Mike Bezos, until he was a teenager. His family moved to Miami, where Bezos attended high school.

When Bezos first thought of creating the now world’s largest online bookstore, he almost named his company “Cadabra” after the magical term Abra-cadabra. Amazon’s first lawyer convinced him to stay away from that name because it sounded too similar to “Cadaver.” Bezos also mulled upon the name Relentless.com before finally settling down to Amazon.

At the peak of the dot-com boom, Bezos was named the first Person of the Year in 1999 with the sub title “The fast-moving Internet economy has a jungle of competitors…and here’s the king” and truly so.

It’s now a well-known fact that Bezos purchased The Washington Post for $250 million. Before that, the newspaper was locally controlled for over 80 years by the Graham family.

Apart from being one of the most successful business minds on Earth, Jeff Bezos is also a visionary. Other than Elon Musk, Bezos is another person, who hopes to offer private flights to space at over 100 km above the Earth. Bezos-founded Blue Origin says on their website, “Earth, in all its beauty, is just the starting place.”
