God’s promises; we need a change of perspective

I was listening to a Housefires song “Yes and Amen”, taken from 2 Cor. 1:20. I truly believe that God’s promises are always yes and amen. The problem starts when we assume that what we expect to happen is God’s promise. For instance…

Did God promise you money, and riches, and money… did I already mention money?

No! But He promises to take care of all your needs. (Phil 4:19)

Did God promise that you will have a trouble-free life?

No! He promised the opposite. He promised you will have trouble (John 16:33). But he did promise that he will be with you (Matt. 28:20)

Did God promise that everything in life will be victory and happiness?

No! In fact you will be tired and weary. But God promised that he will give you rest. (Matt. 11:28–30)

Did God promise that you’ll always be strong?

No! But he did promise that you will be strengthened with the power through the Spirit in your inner being. (Eph. 3:14–16)

Did God promise that you’ll always be victorious against sin?

Not at all. You will sin. But he promised to forgive every single time we confess (1 John 1:9)

Did God promise you health, and wealth and long life?

No. Be thankful if you reach 70 in this day and age. But he did promise that you will live for eternity with him if you believe that Jesus is your savior (John 3:!6)

And the list goes on and on. So, yes. God’s promises are always yes and amen. But change your perspective — from our own expectations to God’s perspective.
