Sure, Taylor Swift’s narrative is tired as all hell, but if you can separate that from everything else, this song is one of the best pop releases of the year.

It’s produced by Jack Antonoff, of Fun. and Bleachers, who also produced the entirety of Lorde’s Melodrama. It’s bold, and challenging, and really different for Taylor.

It’s brilliant that it’s so divisive. It’s brilliant that you either love it or hate it; nobody is indifferent to this song. It’s brilliant that despite this divided reaction to the song, it’s still been decimating everything else on the charts. It’s just brilliant.

Also, apropos of nothing, if you use the Change Playback speed function on YouTube to pull it back to 0.75x or maybe even 0.5x speed, it’s even better.
