Over the years, the rapid advancement in technology has changed our lives for the better. Technology is a powerful force in our lives and we hear about new technological developments regularly. Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web once said, “The Web as I envisaged it, we have not seen it yet. The future is still so much bigger than the past.” What he envisioned actually came to life as Web 1.0 was the initial phase of the World Wide Web which later transitioned into Web 2.0, which will soon get completely transitioned to Web 3.0.

Before we dive deep into the realm of Web 3.0, let’s take a brief look at the evolution of the World Wide Web over the years. Web 1.0 was the first generation of the World Wide Web. It was created by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 and offered people static websites through which people could only view the information available on the web pages. For this reason, Web 1.0 was also referred to as “Read-Only Web”. In 2004, Dale Dougherty and O’Reilly VP created Web 2.0 which marked our transition from the static world of Web 1.0 to the dynamic world of Web 2.0. The creation of Web 2.0 led to all kinds of online interactions by giving rise to the concept of social media. The advent of social media through Web 2.0 was a great blessing as it made the world a smaller place.

Web 3.0 is the future of the World Wide Web. The concept of Web 3.0 is not completely new and it also hasn’t been fully implemented yet. It was first coined by Gavin Wood, co-founder of Ethereum in 2014. It integrates the concepts of machine learning, blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, decentralization, openness, and greater user utility to reinvigorate the web experience and implement real-world human interaction. It will deliver a quicker and more individualized experience for the users. The semantic web aims to enhance web technology by enabling search and analysis based on the ability to grasp the meaning of words, rather than being solely dependent on keywords or numbers. Some examples of web 3.0 applications are Siri and wolfram alpha.

Function of Artificial Intelligence in Web 3.0:

Artificial intelligence is spreading its wings in every technical field and Web 3.0 is no exception. In Web 3.0, the use of artificial intelligence allows computers to perceive information just like humans in order to provide swifter and more pertinent results. Therefore, AI acts as a driving force for the intelligent capabilities of Web 3.0.

Importance of decentralization in Web 3.0:

One of the most attractive features of Web 3.0 is the fact that it will be decentralized. The process of decentralization focuses on giving complete control to the back-end users. In simple words, users will themselves be in charge of segments of the internet. It also tackles various problems such as crashing of the server, and the possibility of the website being taken down by hackers.

Function of Blockchain in Web 3.0:

Blockchain is a crucial building block of Web 3.0. Blockchain will aid in providing robust security in the data-driven world of Web 3.0. Furthermore, blockchain will also assist in attaining decentralized data storage which is its most predominant role in the development of Web 3.0. The ultimate goal of Web 3.0 which is openness and lucidity can be reached with the help of blockchain.

Web 3.0 will bring a huge transformation in the way people perceive the internet. It will bring a bigger revolutionary change in this already fast-paced world and form an integral part of the lives of people. We are heading towards a world in which the internet will become more expedited, user-friendly, and interactive. Mankind has already made a mark in the world of technology but with the development of Web 3.0, there will be more futuristic advancements and technology will reach greater heights.
