Never before have people traveled so frantically as these days. In the past, when traveling was considerably more expensive, such activities was regarded as a luxury for few. Yet today, seemingly due to a substantial plummet of flight costs, this scenario has increasingly shifted and tourism, in turn, has become one of the most prominent industries of the modern world.

The enormous prosperity of the tourism industry apparently stemmed from a dramatic drop of fuels' prices around the world, which naturally plays a crucial role in flying costs. This, joined by a steady growth in emerging economies, has fostered the development of such a market on a global scale. Not surprisingly, once traveling entered on the middle class' radar, the boom of the sector was just a natural consequence. In other words, the cheaper the flight is, the higher the demand will become.

In fact, such incredible success of tourism brings about a number of benefits not only for the economy but also for the traveller. That travelling abroad is often remarked as one of the most fulfilling experiences in ones' lives is well known. From experimenting with exotic cuisines, flavours and fragrances to getting in touch with different cultures, customs and traditions, such unique experiences might be even enlightening for some, fostering a tangible sense of tolerance and respect toward others thus.

In conclusion, albeit evident that only scientific research will be able to reveal accurately the reasons for such phenomenon, it seems clear to me that this trend tends to prevail and even increase, resulting in some positive ramifications not only for tourism per se but also — and perhaps more importantly — for tourists.
