Drivers of Impact
Pushing the needle of progress and innovation in the new year.
Thank you to all the respondents for the stakeholder survey! We have a real, fully human team that diligently reads and addresses all responses. Respondents thus far have given us valuable insights and suggestions to reflect on, and we’d love to hear from more folks in our community to ensure we’re getting a diversity of voices and perspectives.
As a recently Certified B Corp, we are committed to being the most impactful consultancy we can be. To do this, we will engage more regularly with our key stakeholders to hear how we’re doing, and gather ideas on how we can create more value for our people, our environment, and our community. 2023 Impact Report: Behind the Scenes
New year, new beginnings. iF started off 2024 with a refresh to our mission and vision. This update came on the heels of careful reflection, ideation, and celebration of the work that we’ve accomplished, and all that we look forward to tackling in the future. We’re pleased to announce our new mission and vision.
As we continue to grow our teams and expand our capabilities, the new mission and vision will be critical to guide and align our work.
As mentioned above, our progress is not possible without reflection. That’s where our Impact Report comes in. After our inaugural report last year, this comprehensive report charts how we measured up against our goals. In short, did we accomplish what we wanted to? Did we stay committed to our values?
Read our Impact Report below.
The 2023 Impact Report measured iF’s performance against three overarching goals centered around People, Planet, and Community.
- People: Scale equity-centered approaches
- Planet: Prioritize sustainable solutions
- Community: Create with, not for, community
Our ratings in these three areas ranged from centered (most) to agnostic (least), charting how much of a focus each goal was. The results of the Impact Report were by no means a report from the top — the goal creation and scoring was a collective and collaborative process, like much of our work at iF. We reviewed every project from the last year and rated it against the three goals. Several iFsters across different practices and job levels contributed to the report, creating a rubric that all employees believe in and trust to benchmark our performance for years to come.
The goals measured in this report have elements that show up in every single project at iF. Our status as a new B Corporation empowers and energizes us to embark on this work, sharpening our focus on feedback and continuous improvement.
Our story is unfinished. The Impact Report marks important milestones and moments in time, but the work will always continue. Over the course of 2024, we aim to increase the number of projects that embody positive impact for People, Planet, and Community, and to continue to evaluate how we can serve our larger community.
Happenings
Other things we’ve been working on…
- iF Leadership launched the Senior Advisors Program, a long-awaited thought partnership with eight industry experts in our network.
- Mitch represented iF at a conference to explore sustainability in our oceans with krill.
- Tia, Ryker, Alec, Gentry, Camille, Beth, and Alison collaborated to prepare a compelling presentation on emerging use-cases for AI-enabled technology as a tool for mathematics education. Alison and Beth then presented the collective work at a symposium in London.
- Christian presented at the WA State SHRM conference with an engaging session on Building a People-First Culture.
Read, Watch, & Listen
This quarter, we noticed that the media iFsters were reading, watching, and listening had a strong theme about humanity and connection. While coincidental, we felt this was an apt theme as one of the B Corp values is demonstrating high social performance.
J.J. Westfall, Director of Operations — “The Top Three Facilitation Challenges Every Facilitator Encounters” by Integrated Work
This article clearly outlines three challenges that occur when facilitating group activities:
- Aligning Participants in a Diverse Group
- Crickets
- Over-participators
These are common pitfalls and important to address. I appreciated the thoughtful suggestions on how to deal with these situations, which can be useful for any facilitator.
Samantha Bazant, Strategist, Digital Strategy & Innovation — “Under a White Sky” by Elizabeth Kolbert
This book explores humanity’s relationship to climate change and climate solutions. Through a journalistic lens, the book asks the reader to consider the limits of trying to “fix” climate change through the same types of human interventions that created climate disasters in the first place. This book is a thought-provoking exploration of the extent to which we can truly understand — let alone “control” — environmental systems and what the ethical (and scientific) limitations of climate change mitigation might be.
Jeff Lindstrom, Senior Strategist, Digital Strategy & Innovation — Are we on air?
Hosted by the Director de Ambiance of the legendary Chateau Marmont, this podcast is literally a who’s who of creative powerhouses. It explores the music that has shaped the lives of creatives such as Jane Birkin, Rick Owens, and David LaChapelle.
