Embracing Brilliance: Meet Our Tech Summer Interns at If Insurance!
As the summer draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the journey we’ve had with our talented summer interns in the If Tech Community. All in all, 9 students worked in Turku and 6 in Oslo. These young minds have brought fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for technology to our team. In this article, we’ll get to know them better and learn what they did during the summer!
Meet the Stars: Interviews with our Summer Interns
Hilde — The Adventurous Developer
Hilde, a Computer Science student specializing in software engineering, proved herself to be a valuable addition to the Data and Analytics Tribe. Working on a new pricing engine and visualization tasks, Hilde found joy in learning and connecting with fellow interns. Having heard positive feedback from friends who previously interned at If, Hilde planned to spend her summer with friends, enjoying outdoor activities and visiting scenic destinations.
Paavo — The Problem Solver
Hailing from Turku University in Finland, Paavo, a 3rd-year computer science student, joined us as a Solution Developer Intern. His focus was on modernizing If’s Java software applications. Paavo relished the problem-solving aspect of his work, immersing himself in challenging tasks and enjoying the positive atmosphere with his co-workers. Having heard positive things about If as an employer, Paavo decided to apply and enjoyed every moment since.
Henriette — The Biophysics Data Analyst
Meet Henriette, a 23-year-old biophysics and medical technology student from Lier, NTNU. This summer, she joined If’s Claims squad in the Data and Analytics Tribe, solving problems in Teradata and SQL alongside Iryna and Anish. Henriette values the supportive and inclusive work environment and plans to spend her summer enjoying time with family and friends, including a trip to England with her boyfriend.
Jonas — The Data Enthusiast
Jonas, a mathematics student specializing in statistics, brought his passion for machine learning and data analytics to If as a summer intern in the Data and Analytics Tribe. Working on projects related to Tableau and the new price engine, Jonas cherished the creative freedom he had to find innovative solutions. Having had a fulfilling experience last summer, Jonas chose If again and planned to spend his summer playing volleyball and enjoying quality time with friends.
Anish — The Data Science Dynamo
Anish, an Industrial Engineering student with a focus on Data Science, embraced two tasks this summer — one involving Claims and another focusing on gamifying Tableau. He relished the opportunity to meet new people and expand his network. Drawn to If for its reputation as a major insurance company in the Nordics, Anish planned to spend his summer playing football and basketball, going on a road trip to Copenhagen, and enjoying time with friends.
Iryna — The Language Technologist
Originally from Ukraine and now studying language technologies at UiO, Iryna brought her fascination for data and analytics to If as a summer intern. Working with the Claims Team and Teradata, Iryna found the experience exciting and enjoyed the learning opportunities. With a perfect Norwegian summer ahead, she planned to spend time with family and friends.
Nelly — The Innovator
Nelly, a math major and computer science minor at Åbo Akademi in Turku, impressed us as a solution developer interns in OPE (printing). She loved the flexibility of her job, the inspiring colleagues, and the continuous learning opportunities. Having heard only good things about If from her friends, Nelly was thrilled to come back this summer for the second time. In her free time, she planned to complete her bachelor’s thesis in math and enjoy the summer.
Marius — The Explorer
Marius, a 23-year-old Computer Science student from Bærum, Norway, joined our Data & Analytics Tribe this summer. Collaborating with Jonas and Hilde, they worked on a new price engine for the AnalyticsOps squad. Additionally, Marius teamed up with Iryna to visualize intriguing data findings through beautiful graphs. His favorite part of the job was the freedom to explore creative solutions and the opportunity to learn from competent and friendly colleagues. Marius discovered If’s strong Data and Analytics knowhow online, and he planned to spend the rest of the summer enjoying quality time with family and friends.
Tua — The Information Management Enthusiast
Tua, a second-year business student majoring in information and service management, joined If as a data engineer intern. Her main focus was on modernizing software applications. Tua found fulfillment in problem-solving and planned to enjoy her summer outdoors, spending time with friends and exploring the archipelago.
Eetu — The Multifaceted Developer
Eetu, studying Software Engineering at Turku University of Applied Sciences, proved himself as a valuable Solution Developer intern. Working with the .NET framework for back-end development, Eetu appreciated the diverse pool of professionals in our Tech Community. He found If to be a perfect fit as a major employer in Turku, and he planned to make the most of the summer by exploring the outdoors and spending quality time with family and friends.
As an organization, we believe in creating technology that matters. Our summer interns have been an integral part of this journey, contributing to projects that aim to make a positive difference in the lives of our customers. The creativity, enthusiasm, and fresh perspectives they brought to the table have inspired us to continue innovating and developing solutions that address real-world challenges. As summer comes to an end, we wish them all the best in their academic pursuits and look forward to potentially welcoming them back as future team members at If Insurance.
