Why I’ve stopped writing for Medium
I’ve been MIA and here’s why…
When I first heard of the money making opportunity with Medium that allowed for me to combine my skills as a writer with the potential for getting paid I thought it was a no brainer to establish a presence here. So I started writing…and reading. I’ve come close to the 100 subscriber mark that allows for you to start getting paid, and I even started my own publication here. I wanted to create a brand around the concept of “firing your boss” so that all of the people who were indeed inspired by me firing my boss could have a place to build community, to share, to grow.
In truth I was overwhelmed.
I knew I needed to find some way to put all of these ideas together, to generate income, to perhaps even build a team but I didn’t know exactly how. I went to several conferences in 2022 and a passion within a passion was ignited — financial therapy. Talking about money and feelings, beliefs, psychology. From there my branding focused shifted back into the financial realm where most of my audience came from and I had to bring everyone who jumped on the train for me firing my boss along in the journey.
I abandoned the movement indirectly. I found community within financial therapy and I stopped writing.
Then I discovered Substack.
Substack gave me everything in one place I needed to be successful:
- An email list
- A blog
- Community Chat
- A subscription service
- It was free
- I owned all my data
- and I didn’t have to fight against an algorithm
- I make money!!!
This whole time I’ve been paying monthly for the premium features of Medium and not taking advantage of it. But I’ve also been writing on Substack weekly on the topic of financial trauma. Does that mean I’m going to never come back to Medium? Well I haven’t decided that yet. What it does mean however is that if you want to find me where I’m most active you need to subscribe to my newsletter on Substack.
Here’s the link -> “Overcoming Financial Trauma”
I think I’ll continue to have both for awhile because I miss my Medium friends. And I could very well make money over here too. But that’s where I’ve been and I wanted to pop in and say hey.
