IfNotNow Calls for Massive Protests if the Federations Don’t Publicly Stand Against Bannon by the 8th Night of Hanukkah

On December 14th, the Conference of Presidents refused to cancel their Hanukkah Party at the Trump Hotel, displaying just how out-of-touch they are with the majority of the American Jewish community.

While the Jewish Federations of North American decided to quietly boycott the event, they have been deafeningly silent on the appointment of Stephen Bannon. This silence groups them with the Conference of Presidents and the rest of the out-of-touch establishment — and continues to deepen our doubt in their ability to lead our community at this moment of crisis.

The first step for the Jewish Federations to demonstrate leadership right now is to stand up against Bannon.

If we can’t count on them to oppose such public white nationalism now, how can we count on them to oppose any of the violent policies we know are coming from the Trump Administration in the next four years?

We call on the Jewish Federations of North America — the largest organization in the American Jewish community — to take a public stance against the appointment of Stephen Bannon by the eighth night of Hanukkah.

If they fail to do so, we will be the leaders the Jewish Federations refuse to be, and take massive action in cities across the country.

On the eve of the 50th year of occupation, American Jews are looking to our institutions for leadership in the U.S. and in Israel/Palestine. Calling on Trump to #FireBannon is the first step. Seriously working to end the occupation is the next. We’re looking to the Jewish Federations to do both — if not we’ll be the leaders we’ve been waiting for.

Join the #JewishResistance right now.

Sign up to act with thousands of other American Jews and demand the Jewish Federations of North America choose a side — the racism, anti-Semitism, and Islamophobia of Steve Bannon — or the moral leadership our community needs right now.
