If your inbox is anything like mine this morning, it’s full of emails from fantastic organizations asking you to give generously to them this #GivingTuesday.
I have the tough job today to convince you to give to IfNotNow — you can do that right here, right now, and get us closer to reaching our goal of $150,000 by the end of the year.
But, case you need an extra nudge, I want to pull back the curtain for you of how our movement for freedom and dignity for all Israelis and Palestinians gets built:
On any given weekend, you’ll find IfNotNow leaders from across the country — some new, some experienced activists — in a room for a training. There is big paper taped to the wall, with lists and diagrams on them. The trainers in the front of the room, writing on the paper, have been preparing for this training for weeks, often after work or on weekends. Coffee cups with people’s names on them are strewn about the room (with some choice snacks on a table in the back). The participants in the room are huddled over their notebooks or gathered in small groups in heated discussion.
They’re talking about the rise of white nationalism and antisemitism, and how we need a transformation in our community and an end to the Occupation. They’re planning historic protests and powerful community events. And of course, there is lots of singing.
That’s how our movement gets built. At trainings and workshops happening nearly every weekend somewhere in the United States. Just in the last few weeks we’ve had them in Detroit, New York, Boston, Austin, and many other places!
Your donation this #GivingTuesday makes sure we have the funds to rent the space and keep the group fed (and caffeinated!).
Your donation this #Giving Tuesday makes sure that we have the funds to buy supplies: markers and paper for the training taking place that weekend, banners and paint for the protests the people in the room are dreaming up.
Your donation this #Giving Tuesday makes sure that we have the funds to cover the flights and busses of IfNotNow members from every corner of the country, so we can build a national movement.
What I’m trying to say is actually quite simple: Every dollar you give goes directly back into building the movement fighting for the soul of the Jewish community. The movement that is going to lead the largest Jewish youth uprising in American history in 2019.
Thank you for being generous today.
PS. Here are a few of my favorite photos of trainings we’ve had over the years!
