“Ruouni Kenshin”, one of the most popular comic series in Japan, was first made into a movie in August 2012. The movie was a massive success, which made more than 30 billion yen. And this year, the final 2 films of the trilogy were released in August and September. The final 2 films are “Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno” and “Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends”.
“Kyoto Inferno”, opened in August 2014; as soon as it was shown to public, it drew an audience totaling 433,456 people, making about 6 billion yen. Its success also reached overseas markets. At the Asia Premiere in the Philippines, more than 5,000 fans of “Rurouni Kenshin” gathered, proving the series’ international popularity. “Kyoto Inferno” attracted 39,385 people on the first day of viewing, breaking the record for the number of spectators to attend a Japanese film in the Philippines.
After the release of “Kyoto Inferno”, the series’ finale “Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends” has finally been released. The movie provides the perfect climax, satisfying patient fans of the work. Just like the first movie, the Japanese rock band ONE OK ROCK recorded the theme song for the remaining movies, creating tracks that add a heightened sense of drama to various scenes in the movies. Also, a popular character “Seijuro Hiko” appears in numerous action scenes. There have been 3 different types of TV advertisements aired, greatly increasing the expectation for the films.
Plot summary
“Kenshin Himura” is a former legendary assassin who survived the last days of the Tokugawa regime with just one sword. As Makoto Shishio attempts to take over Japan, Kenshin makes his way to Kyoto to stop him. However, far from stopping Makoto Shishio, Kenshin had his sword “Sakabatou (reverse-edged-sword)” broken by Soujiro Seta, a servant of Makoto Shishio. As his loved ones, including Kaoru Kamiya, have their lives put in danger, Kenshin realizes that there is no way for him to defeat the Shishio faction, forcing him to go on a treacherous journey to find out what he is missing. What is Shishio’s final plan? Will Kenshin be able to protect his country and see his beloved Kaoru once again? The magnificent climax, which will undoubtedly change the future of film entertainment, begins.
