Carrollton Market is one of those hidden gems that folks around town don’t intentionally rave about, mainly because they want it all to themselves. I wholeheartedly can’t keep this place a secret any longer! Located in the Riverbed 1/2 block off Carrollton Ave. (8132 Hampson St, New Orleans, LA 70118), Carrollton Market is a special place.

Lead by Chef Jason Goodenough (yep that really is his last name), Carrollton Market is quaint and inviting all the while producing top notch food. Below you’ll see some of the stuff I scarfed down, but the big standout to me was where I ate. There are a handful of seats at the bar that faces the open kitchen where Chef Goodenough and his small and efficient team puts together each dish. I had never been that close to a kitchen, especially since I left the restaurant life years ago, and it was awesome and unexpected. I’ll get to the food in a second, but recently Chef Jason brought Mardi Gras to NYC at Cafe Boulud. (see below). Super rad honor to cook alongside Chef Daniel.

The menu at Carrollton Market is diverse and eclectic. Titled “Southern Bistro”, Jason and his team have put together a tour de force of a menu that touches upon the classics as well as reshapes the idea of what southern food should be. You’ll see some of the hightlights from my dinner, but the next time you’re anywhere near the Riverbend, stop in and site at the bar to catch a glimpse of greatness.
