Drip Affogato Bar
It’s been a long time, we shouldn’t of left you, without a dope beat to step to is the best way to apologize for being absent the last few months. For the last few months, I’ve been taking care of family in their time of need, and I have let the website lay in waiting. I wanted to take the time to refresh the site and get back to what the site should always be, Just New Orleans.
With my first feature, I wanted to highlight a place that has become a sweet escape for me, and that’s Drip Affogato Bar. Located in my favorite area of the city right now, and on one the hottest avenues, 703 Carondelet Street, Drip is one of the coolest concepts to surface in Nola in quite some time. They have such a clever description which you’ll see below in their Instagram pic, but for those of you who are wondering what Affogato is here’s the official wiki definition —
“An affogato (Italian, “drowned”) is a coffee-based dessert. It usually takes the form of a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream topped or “drowned” with a shot of hot espresso. It is now common to have multiple scoops of ice cream so that in many cases the coffee is drowned by ice cream. Some variations also include a shot of amaretto, Bicerin or other liqueur. It is considered one drink, not a combination of coffee and ice cream.”
Even though “drowned” is appropriate for most people, for me it’s an IV Drip that would work best when intaking coffee and especially coffee over gelato. With that said, taking the best of both worlds at polar opposites, and their’s bound to be harmony. I’ll jump right to the good stuff and say that they have a great curated selection of gelato flavors including my favorites Vietnamese Iced Coffee and Sea Salt Caramel, drowned in espresso from super local espresso beans. Seriously, winning all around.
Just a few days ago, I needed to escape the confines, and decided to share my special place with a good friend who chose Mexican Hot Chocolate, and was sent to the moon and back. She also took an amazing photo of her selection, which you’ll see below.
With all that said, I’m thrilled to make Drip my first feature in the new digital digs. Check it out soon and I hope it becomes your special sweet place too.
