UofA Faculty and Staff now have the option of working with an Indigenous (Métis) counsellor through the University’s Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP). Layna Aschenmeir has joined the Homewood Health team and will work exclusively with Indigenous clients. ALL University of Alberta faculty and staff have access to EFAP resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year by calling 780–428–7587.

Layna Aschenmeier is a Métis woman of mixed descent. She has a Masters in Social Work, specializing in Indigenous Trauma & Resiliency. She is a Registered Social Worker and works as a counsellor with Indigenous youth and women that are recovering from the effects of multigenerational genocide. In her private practice she primarily works with adults and children who are survivors of sexual, domestic, and colonial violence. She is training somatically in body-oriented therapies including Somatic Experiencing, Bodynamics, Self-Regulation Therapy, and is currently being trained in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics.
