Abstract : Home Automation technique is used to design and implement a remotely controlled, energy efficient and highly scalable Smart Home with basic features that safeguard the residents’ comfort and security. A Smart Home Automation system which uses Hand Gestures for disabled people to switch ON fans & lights of the house, power saving capabilities to switch ON lights only in presence of people, switch ON exterior lights based on light intensity is designed & developed. The system consists of sensors and appliance actuators an ARM7 microcontroller that communicates with a relay which is the user interface is used. Events can be programmed to be triggered under specific conditions, and this can have a great role in reducing the total energy consumed by some appliances. On the other hand, the system consists of voice module to produce voice when a help is needed via hand gestures.

I.INTRODUCTION

In many homes there are many people who are old aged or disabled and they can’t walk. And there is nobody who is always with theme all the time. There are people who look after theme in periodic intervals. The problem is when a people visits theme then it is might not necessary that they needs theme but the old aged or disabled person may need a person when anybody is not present with theme. Hence home automation systems play a crucial role for elderly or disabled persons, so that they can feel comfortable, independent and secure. This automation system is developed by using voice identification. The home automations are focused on energy savings, security, culture, leisure, comfort.

II.EXISTING SYSTEM

The basic problems faced by disabled people in day-to-day life in their own house to turn ON or OFF the equipments like lights, fans and difficulty in analyzing switches are observed many times. And the major issue being faced by the country is loss of power (power shortage). This power shortage can be solved by two ways majorly; one way is from load shedding & second way is that people should be enlightened to switch OFF the appliances when not needed. Often it is observed that the street lights in cities are usually forgotten to be switched OFF during the day and this can be solved by taking initiatives in order to switch OFF the street lights during day time, and to save power. In order to overcome these problems, we design & develop of a smart home automation system

III.PROPOSED SYSTEM

In order to overcome the problems encountered, we design & develop of a smart home automation system which uses Hand gestures for disabled people to switch ON or OFF fans & lights or equipments of the house, Here in this condition we are using tri-accelerometer to which live feed of hand gestures are given and it goes to Central processor (LPC2148), Control signals from processing units are sent to relay, from relay different appliances can be controlled on given gestures. The two devices controlled are fan and light for compactness of the device design. In future more home appliances can be controlled by incorporating those devices with newer versions of gestures, also implemented in every home at low cost. The device helps the aged persons too.

VI.LPC2148 CONTROLLER

The LPC2148 microcontrollers are based on a 32-bit ARM7TDMI-S CPU with real-time emulation and embedded trace support. That combine the microcontroller with embedded high-speed flash memory ranging from 32 kb to 512 kb. A 128-bit wide memory interface and a unique accelerator architecture enable 32-bit code execution at the maximum clock rate.

For critical code size applications, the alternative 16-bit Thumb mode reduces code by more than 30 % with minimal performance penalty. Embedded ICE RT and Embedded Trace interface es offer real-time debugging with the on-chip Real Monitor software and high-speed tracing of instruction execution. Multiple serial interfaces including two UARTs (16C550), two Fast I2C-bus (400 Kbit/s), SPI and SSP with buffering and variable data length capabilities.

VII.TRI ACCELEROMETER

Acceleration is a measure of how quickly speed changes. Just as a speedometer is a meter that measures speed, an accelerometer is a meter that measures acceleration. You can use an accelerometer’s ability to sense acceleration to measure a variety of things that are very useful to electronic and robotic projects and designs

The MMA7361L is a low power, low profile capacitive micromachined accelerometer featuring signal conditioning, a 1-pole low pass filter, temperature compensation, self test, 0g-Detect which detects linear freefall, and g-Select which allows for the selection between 2 sensitivities. Zero-g offset and sensitivity are factory set and require no external devices. The MMA7361L includes a Sleep Mode that makes it ideal for handheld battery powered electronics.

VIII.RESULT

The result for this project is based upon the data that is fetched from the accelerometer. If the accelerometer is tilt to its right side then the speaker sounds like COME HERE, if it is tilt to its left side then the speaker sounds like NEED WATER, like that if it is tilt to up and down then the corresponding result is BULB ON, FAN ON respectively.

IX.CONCLUSION

The objective of this paper is to develop such a system which will help physically challenged and disabled persons to control home appliances by hand gestures using accelerometer. This provides comfort and convenience for common users as well, especially in home systems. In this system physically challenged persons are use the home appliances with full of comfort. The function of this system is simple for operating the devices, this will be replaced by wearable gloves for operating the home appliances.
