Be a Carioca at #ILARIO18 (without the accent!)
Rio de Janeiro has many other wonderful sights beyond the already well known, such as the Corcovado, the Sugar Loaf cable car and the Vista Chinesa belvedere.
That’s why we gathered some tips to make your experience in the city even more diverse.
So we start with Eduardo Guinle Park, or for the Cariocas, Parque Guinle, which is in the neighbourhood of Laranjeiras — south zone of the city.
Decipher me or …
Historically, the whole park area, designed in 1920 by landscaper Gerard Cochet and later on receiving interventions from the great Burle Marx, was a property of the powerful Guinle family.
At the entrance, you will be greeted by two sphinxes. But rest assured: no riddles to figure out, ok?
Lie on the grass and relax
Then comes the playground, social spot of the baby strollers in the neighbourhood and then, the big lake, where you can usually give some pop-corn to ducks and birds.
Following the path, you will pass through a vast green area, of a total area of 24 thousand square meters (m²) of fresh air and tranquillity.
On weekdays, the park is used for practicing physical activities, mainly for the 3rd age, and is very popular among locals.
The access of the ‘Parque Guinle’ (as the locals call it) is by Gago Coutinho street, which ends at ‘Largo do Machado’ square.
How to get there
To get there you can go by subway, hopping off at Largo do Machado station, a square well known throughout the city.
Way back in the Condor gallery, which is also in the Largo do Machado area, you’ll find the best ‘Sfiha’ in the city. There are also several restaurant options and the great movie theatre ‘Cine São Luiz’.
If you are taking a bus coming from the South Zone (Zona Sul), take the Circular 1 or 2, which come from Leblon. From DownTown (Centro), the best option should be the 184 bus, which has its ending stop at ‘Central do Brasil’.
From the West and North zones, you will need to take at least two public transportations to get there. Then our suggestion is to take a bus or Uber/Cabify to drop you off at a subway station and then the rest you already know.
Our final tip is: if you are going to the park, go during the day. You will enjoy it way more!
